Crackdown on illegal cow slaughter intensified in Haridwar; three Muslim cow smugglers arrested, 150 kg beef recovered

Case Summary
Haridwar police arrested three individuals on charges of cow slaughter following a tip-off. Senior Superintendent of Police stated that the district police had intensified their crackdown on illegal cow slaughter. Acting on intelligence, a special police team raided a house in the Dadupur area, where they recovered approximately 150 kg of beef and arrested the accused—Anees, Sahil, and Mursit. Authorities revealed that this gang had been actively operating across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, engaging in illegal cow slaughter and meat trade. SSP further noted that following strict enforcement in Uttar Pradesh, cattle smugglers and illegal slaughterhouses had shifted their activities towards Uttarakhand’s borders. In response, Uttarakhand police had heightened vigilance and pledged swift action against such offences. The arrested individuals had been booked under the state's anti-cow slaughter laws and remanded to judicial custody. This was not the first instance of such an arrest in Haridwar. In a previous case, law enforcement had apprehended several individuals involved in cow slaughter under the guise of dairy farming, seizing a significant quantity of beef along with slaughtering tools. The police continued to monitor such activities closely to prevent further incidents.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as Undecided. If more details emerge, it will be added to the Hate Crime Database.
