Smuggled cows recovered in inhumane condition in canter truck

Case Summary
A canter truck loaded with smuggled cows was intercepted by volunteers of Gau Suraksha Seva Dal Punjab on the Bhucho-Rampura National Highway. Acting on a tip-off, the volunteers learned that a known cow smuggler, involved in smuggling cattle from villages in Kotkapura, Faridkot district, had sent a truck carrying cows in a cruelly bound condition. The truck was en route to the Mewat slaughterhouse via Bathinda, Rampura, and Barnala. Upon receiving this information, the police were alerted, and with the assistance of the Nathana police station and Bhucho Mandi outpost, the canter was intercepted at the toll plaza. During inspection in the presence of the police, 13 cows were found tied in inhumane conditions. Two smugglers were arrested along with the vehicle. The police seized the truck and registered a case against the accused. The arrested smuggler has multiple cases of theft, cow slaughter, and smuggling registered against him in different police stations across Punjab and Haryana.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as Undecided. If more details emerge, it would be added to the Hate Crime Database.
