Severed cow head found in Rajasthan's Tonk, Hindu organisations stage protests

Case Summary
A case of cow slaughter in Tonk, Rajasthan, triggered massive outrage after the severed head of a cow was found near the BSNL office, a significant public location, on March 7, 2025. The discovery led to protests by Hindu organisations, who gathered at Ghantaghar Chowk with the cow remains, demanding strict action against the perpetrators. Demonstrators blocked roads and attempted to enforce a market shutdown, resulting in a scuffle with some shopkeepers before police intervened. Protesters said that incidents of cow slaughter had been occurring repeatedly in Tonk, citing a similar case in January when bovine remains were found. BJP district president Chandraveer Singh Chauhan, along with other protestors, submitted a memorandum to District Collector Saumya Jha, urging immediate and severe action. The police, led by DSP Rajesh Vidyarthi, began scanning CCTV footage from the area and assured that those responsible would be identified and arrested.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as Undecided. If more details emerge, it would be added to the Hate Crime Database.
