Cow slaughtering gang led by Muslim men caught in Uttar Pradesh after attacking police during raid
Case Summary
In Hasanpur, Uttar Pradesh, police arrested wanted cow smuggler Zeeshan after an encounter, recovering a pistol and ammunition following earlier cow slaughter and firing on police. Cows were being slaughtered in a cold store on the Ujhari–Hasanpur road by five individuals. Acting on a tip-off from informants, the police reached the scene, but the accused opened fire on them. In the retaliatory firing, cow smuggler Danish was shot in the leg, while his four accomplices, including Zeeshan—a resident of Saidangali—fled the spot. The police stated that a reward of ₹25,000 had been announced for Zeeshan’s arrest. Acting on further intelligence, they learned that he was seen near the stadium on Chamunda Road, planning another crime. When the police attempted to apprehend him, Zeeshan opened fire. He was eventually surrounded and captured. A pistol, two cartridges, and a spent shell were recovered from his possession.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as Undecided. If more details emerge, it would be added to the Hate Crime Database.
