Case Summary

A violent clash erupted between two communities in Dhanauli village, located in the Malpura police station area of Agra. The conflict arose after a group of Hindu youths objected to individuals from the Muslim community consuming alcohol on the roadside. The situation quickly escalated, leading to heavy stone pelting from both sides and even aerial firing. The altercation occurred in the evening along the road leading to Nagla Lekhraj. Hindu youths opposed the public consumption of alcohol, highlighting that the route was frequently used by women, men, and children. Their protest led to a verbal altercation, which soon spiralled into physical violence. As tensions flared, both groups engaged in stone pelting, and one faction fired four rounds into the air, causing panic in the village. Terrified residents locked themselves inside their homes, shutting doors and windows for safety. Upon receiving reports of the clash, the police swiftly arrived at the scene. However, the assailants attempted to flee upon spotting law enforcement. Three individuals, including one injured person, were taken into custody. Malpura police station chief, Pawan Kumar Saini, confirmed that a case of rioting, stone pelting, and firing has been registered based on a complaint by Inspector Vivek Chand. Legal action has been initiated against individuals from both sides, with Fazluddin, Amir, Hamid Khan, Rajesh Khan, and Atul Parmar named from the Muslim group, while Gaurav Pundir, Ajay, and Saurabh were identified from the other side.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

The violent retaliation from the Muslim side in response to opposition against drinking on the roadside was not merely a personal dispute but appears to stem from a deeper hostility towards Hindus, as seen in past incidents of similar aggression. However, in the absence of clear religious markers—such as caste-based slurs or an explicit attack on Hindu identity—this case is currently being placed in the 'Undecided' database. Should further evidence emerge establishing a religious motive, it will be reclassified accordingly in the hate crime database.
