Hindu man converted and married to Muslim woman, family reports grooming

Case Summary
A Hindu cloth merchant from Hasanpur, Amroha, filed a complaint with the ADM, stating that his only son had been a victim of forced religious conversion. He stated that his son, an engineer, was forcibly converted to Islam and married to a Muslim girl. Deepak Kumar, a resident of Mohalla Mahal, stated that his son, Kartikeya Agarwal, worked for a company in Gurgaon. Around two to three years ago, a friend introduced Kartikeya to a girl from Kolkata. On 27 December 2024, Kartikeya married her. His family only learned about the wedding when they saw the photos on his mobile. Distressed by the situation, Kartikeya’s parents approached the ADM during Sampoorna Samadhan Diwas. They stated that their son had been trapped in a love affair and forced into conversion by a group, with the support of the girl’s relatives. The elderly couple, devastated by the separation from their only son, expressed their anguish, stating that they had lost the will to live. They urged authorities to take action against those responsible for the religious conversion.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, the family of the Hindu man has claimed that their son was brainwashed to get into a relationship with a Muslim woman, convert his religion to Islam and then marry the woman. The family says that they learnt of the marriage only when they saw pictures of the wedding on the mobile phone. It is pertinent to note that there is a strong suspicion of brainwashing involved, since the parents of the man have alleged that even the family of the Muslim woman's family was involved. However, from the facts of the case that have emerged it is clear that the Hindu man was an adult. In such a scenario, there is no additional information to determine whether the marriage and conversion by the Hindu man was consensual or coerced. It is entirely possible that the distressed parents believe he was brainwashed but the conversion was consensual. The adult man has the agency to make such decisions. Therefore, due to the lack of additional information and/or direct testimony of the Hindu man, this case is being added to the undecided database.
