Hindu children beaten, Hindus attacked, Hindu man's home demolished by Muslim men over minor fight

Case Summary
In Pranpur village of the Goh Police station area, a minor fight took place between children of Hindu and Muslim families over a stray puppy and a Hindu boy was beaten by a Muslim with a stick. Meanwhile, a Hindu girl was also beaten by a Muslim boy, and the fight between children took a violent turn among the elders. Hindus were attacked by Muslim groups and a Hindu man's house was demolished. The Hindus retaliated in self-defence to protect themselves from the vicious attacks of Muslims. More than a dozen people from both sides got injured. According to media reports, Deepan Paswan, a Hindu Dalit man's daughter had raised a puppy that roamed in the village. Guddu Ansari, a Muslim man's son picked up the puppy and took it home with him. When Deepan's daughter could not find the puppy then she asked the children playing nearby. They said that Guddu Ansari's son had taken the puppy with him. She went to Guddu Ansari's home to bring the puppy back but instead, the girl was beaten up by Ansari's son. The girl after being attacked, left Ansari's home and went back to her home and informed her family about the incident. This led to a lot of abuse between Deepan's family and Guddu's family. Muslims launched an attack on Hindus, and the Hindus retaliated in self-defence. Meanwhile, the angry Muslims demolished Deepan Paswan's house. On receiving the information, DM Shrikant Shastri, SP Ambrish Rahul, SDO Manoj Kumar, SDPO Kumar Rishiraj and others reached the spot and pacified the situation. In the incident of assault, more than two dozen men and women from both communities were arrested. The police detained 26 people in total. SDO Manoj Kumar said that the fight started with the children of two families, and took a terrible form.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the tracker as a religiously motivated hate crime under the category of- Attack not resulting in death. Under this, the sub-category selected is- Communal clash. Communal clash is a form of collective violence that involves clashes between groups belonging to different religious identities. For a communal clash between Hindus and non-Hindus to qualify as a religiously motivated hate crime, the trigger of the violence itself would have to be anti-Hindu in essence. For example, if there is a Hindu religious procession that comes under attack from a non-Hindu mob and after the initial attack, Hindus retaliate in self-defence, leading to a communal clash between the two religious communities. While at a later stage, both communities are involved in the clash/violence, the initial trigger of the violence was by the non-Hindu mob against the Hindus and therefore, it could safely be termed as an anti-Hindu violence. Further, the trigger would also have to be religiously motivated. In the cited example, the attack by the non-Hindu mob was against religious processions and therefore, can be concluded to be religiously motivated. In some cases, the trigger may be non-religious, however, it develops into religious violence against Hindus at a later stage. In such cases too, the foundational animosity towards Hindus becomes the motivating factor of the crime and therefore, it would be classified as a religiously motivated hate crime against Hindus under this category. What began as a seemingly petty and non-religious fight between children over a stray puppy quickly escalated into a religiously motivated hate crime due to the targeted violence inflicted upon Hindus by the Muslim community. The conflict initially involved a Hindu Dalit girl and a Muslim boy, where the girl was beaten when she attempted to retrieve her pet. However, the situation took a communal turn when Muslim individuals launched a brutal attack on Hindus, leading to the beating of a Hindu boy, a large-scale assault on Hindu families, and the demolition of a Hindu man's house. The escalation from a minor dispute to a coordinated attack specifically against Hindus indicates a deep-seated religious bias. The destruction of Hindu property, coupled with the fact that Hindus were forced to defend themselves against a violent mob, suggests that the aggression was not merely a reaction to a child's complaint but rather an expression of hostility toward the Hindu community. This shift in the nature of the violence, from an individual dispute to a collective assault on Hindus, transforms the incident into a religiously motivated hate crime and warrants its inclusion in the Hinduphobia tracker.
