Mortal remains of cow found thrown in village's field in UP's Ambedkar Nagar
Case Summary
Villagers in Solhawan were outraged after the remains of a cow, including its head and bones, were discovered in a well located away from the residential area. The shocking discovery was made by Golu Mishra, a resident of Kedrupur village, while he was irrigating his field. Upon noticing the remains, he immediately informed other villagers, leading to a large gathering at the site. The incident sparked anger and protests, with many insisting on strict action against those responsible. As tensions rose, CO Ram Bahadur Singh and SO Ajay Pratap Yadav arrived with a police team to control the situation. They assured the villagers that a thorough investigation would be conducted and that legal action would be taken against the culprits. To prevent further unrest, the police removed the cow remains from the well and buried them in another location. According to SHO Ajay Pratap Yadav, the remains appeared to be quite old, suggesting that the incident might not have been recent.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
