Gau Rakshaks and Haryana police thwart cow smuggling attempt; rescue 16 bovines being taken to Mewat for slaughtering

Case Summary
Gau Rakshaks intercepted a vehicle transporting cattle at the GT Road toll plaza in Panipat, Haryana. A total of 16 cows were found inside the vehicle, which bore a Punjab registration number. According to the complaint, the cattle were being illegally transported to Mewat for slaughter. The accused, along with the vehicle, was taken to the police station, while the rescued cattle were sent to a Gaushala on Bhainswal Road. Based on the cow vigilantes' complaint, the police registered a case and initiated further action. In his complaint to the Sector 13-17 police station, Rampal, a resident of Shastri Colony, stated that he received information about a Punjab-registered vehicle smuggling cattle through Panipat en route to Mewat for slaughter. Upon verifying the tip-off, he and his associates rushed to the Panipat toll plaza and alerted the Dial 112 police team, who arrived at the scene. A blockade was set up, and around 2:30 AM, the suspected vehicle reached the toll plaza. Upon inspection, 14 cows and 2 bulls were discovered inside, tightly bound and deprived of fodder. During questioning, it was confirmed that the cattle were indeed being transported to Mewat.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
