In the Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh, a man named Ahmed Sharif married a Hindu woman posing as a Hindu- Ajay Singh. The couple married in 2018 and started living in Aligarh, but he did not disclose his actual religious identity to her. The accused brought her home around 5 months ago and left for Malaysia. After he left, her in-laws started pressuring her to convert to Islam. The accused's brothers and their wives forcefully fed her beef and kicked her out of the residence when she protested. She also said that she was two months pregnant and miscarried when the accused pushed her. The cops registered a case based on the girl’s statement.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. What gives this case a distinct religious angle is that the Muslim perpetrator actively hid his religion and pretended to be a Hindu to ensnare the Hindu woman. He married her before revealing his real identity to the victim. He then started inflicting torture on her. He also breached the girl's religious practices by deceitfully feeding her meat. He eventually abandoned her. Since the religious motive of the crime is evident from these facts, this case has been documented as a hate crime.
