Hindu girl lured away for trafficking to Oman by Muslim man, rescued at Delhi airport

Case Summary
In Churu district, Rajasthan, an 18 year old Hindu girl was lured away by a Muslim man named Mohammad Islam, who resides in Oman. He was plotting to lure the girl abroad and sell her. Mohammad Islam had trapped the Hindu girl in a romantic relationship through social media. Three months ago, he had her passport made and brought her from Taranagar to Delhi airport via a cab. SP Yadav further revealed that the man intended to take the girl to Muscat and sell her. However, this dangerous conspiracy was thwarted due to the alertness of the police. The SP added that the girl’s brother, Shubham, had filed a complaint stating that his sister had left the house without informing anyone and had taken ₹1 lakh in cash along with gold and silver jewellery. Following this, the Churu Police launched immediate action, contacted the Delhi Police and the Embassy, and successfully rescued the girl from the airport.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, an 18-year-old Hindu girl from Rajasthan was lured through social media and nearly trafficked to Oman by a Muslim man, but was rescued at Delhi airport just in time by the police. This case raises serious questions as to whether the Hindu girl was religiously profiled and targeted by the Muslim perpetrator. In many instances, Muslim perpetrators have targeted Hindu women for sexual exploitation, often due to underlying religious animosity towards Hindus and Hinduism. However, it is also possible that the crime was opportunistic, with the perpetrator finding the Hindu girl accessible and deciding to exploit her. Some might argue that Muslim perpetrators would have easier access to Muslim girls compared to Hindu girls, so the specific targeting of a Hindu girl could be an indication of a religious motivation behind the crime. Nevertheless, such conclusions remain speculative, as the current details of this case do not provide clear evidence of religious motivations. Additionally, neither the victim nor her family has pointed to any religious motives behind the incident. Since there is no conclusive evidence of religious motivation, this case is being added to the Undecided database. If further information emerges that indicates that this case was motivated by religious animosity, then it would be categorised under the hate crime database. Disclaimer: It is important to clarify that the report does not specify the exact date when the girl’s ordeal began. Therefore, for documentation purposes, we have recorded the date based on when the incident was reported in the media.
