Cow smuggling attempt foiled in Madhya Pradesh; 81 cows rescued from Muslim trafficking group

Case Summary
On Balagudha road in Mandsaur district, Madhya Pradesh, 81 cows were cruelly stuffed into a container truck and being illegally smuggled to a slaughterhouse by five Muslim men. Based on a tip-off, a police team led by SI Satyendra Saini attempted to stop a container truck carrying cattle. The driver, however, did not comply and sped away. A nine-kilometre-long chase ensued, with both police forces and local Hindu organisation workers pursuing the vehicle to apprehend the accused. The container was eventually intercepted near Dooglavda Phante. Upon inspection, nearly 81 cows were found crammed into the vehicle under inhumane conditions, with two of them already dead. The accused had sourced the cattle from Nasirabad and were taking them to a slaughterhouse in Dhule, Maharashtra. As of the date of writing this report, the five Muslim men - Mohsin, Shakir, Akbar, Nahar Syed and Raja (son of Sharif Khan Mevati) were arrested by the police for smuggling. The container was seized, and a case was registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. All the cows were rescued and relocated to various Gaushalas for care. .
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered and smuggled illegally by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter and smuggling are used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter or smuggling, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor; however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as Undecided. If more details emerge, then it would be reclassified under the Hate Crime database.
