Two Hindu youths brutally attacked by Muslims in a train in Nasirabad, Rajasthan

Case Summary
In Nasirabad, Rajasthan, two Hindu youths, Rajkumar and his friend Jitendra, were brutally attacked by a group of Muslims on a train following a dispute over seats. According to reports, Rajkumar and Jitendra were travelling to Hamirgarh to visit relatives. They were in the B-3 coach of the Jodhpur-Indore train (number 14801), occupying seats 21 and 24. Upon reaching Ajmer station, a couple requested that Rajkumar and Jitendra exchange seats, to which they agreed and moved to the couple’s seats. Shortly afterwards, a group of ten to fifteen Muslims, including three to four women, entered the coach and forcibly made Rajkumar and Jitendra vacate their new seats. The train then departed. When the train reached Nasirabad station, the same group, including the women, physically assaulted Rajkumar and Jitendra. They kicked and punched the victims, and one assailant grabbed Rajkumar’s head and struck it against a sharp part of the coach door, causing serious injury. The attackers also attempted to push Rajkumar off the train, leaving him covered in blood. A woman present at the GRP post later stated that when she tried to intervene, the accused also misbehaved with her. Upon receiving information about the altercation, RPF and GRP staff boarded the train at Nasirabad station and removed two of the Muslim accused. The train then continued its journey. When it reached Bhilwara station, another commotion broke out in the coach. The victims and other passengers demanded that the GRP and RPF remove all Muslims involved in the assault. After a prolonged disturbance, the GRP managed to remove only one woman from the train. The emergency chain was also pulled during the incident. The train, which had been halted for 20 minutes, then departed for Indore. The GRP took the accused woman and the victims to the police post, where eyewitnesses, including Mahendra Gabrani, demanded action. There were accusations of discrimination against the GRP post in charge for failing to take sufficient action. Subsequently, Rajkumar filed a report naming the accused, identified as father and son, Ibrahim and Imran. Upon learning of the incident, Municipal Corporation Mayor Rakesh Pathak visited the GRP post and, after being briefed, instructed the post in-charge to take immediate action in the matter.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case raises suspicion about whether the Hindu youths were attacked by the Muslims due to any religious motivations. Although the initial trigger for the violence was not religious, the disproportionate response against the Hindu victims by the Muslim group suggests possible communal undertones. There have been several instances where violence against Hindus has started over non-religious issues but subsequently escalated into communal attacks. However, it is equally plausible that this incident was not religiously motivated, but rather a crime of opportunity. As there is no conclusive evidence indicating a religious motive in this case, nor have the victims made such claims, it has been categorised as ‘Undecided’ in the database. If further information emerges suggesting religious animosity as a factor, the case will be reclassified under the hate crime database.
