Muslim youth poses as Hindu to lure a Hindu girl of Lucknow, sexually exploits her and then abandons her. Victim files complaint after discovering the truth

Case Summary
In the Siddharthnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, a Muslim man named Saud Alam posed as a Hindu named Raj to lure a Hindu girl staying in Lucknow in order to establish sexual relations with her. The girl is a resident of the Salempur area of Deoria and studies law in Lucknow. After spending some time with her, the boy left her and went back home. Following this, the girl went from Lucknow to Siddharthnagar to find him. She arrived at the boy’s house after getting the address, but reportedly, the accused Saud Alam’s family expelled the victim. She discovered his actual religious identity. Following this, the Hindu girl on October 28, 2023 filed a complaint at Chilhiya police station. The accused allegedly took advantage of the victim by making false promises of marrying her. CO Singh stated that a case was registered in the matter and the accused Saud Alam was taken into custody.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. In some cases, the woman eventually accepts the man’s original religious identity and converts after the man’s identity is revealed. These cases could be argued as cases of religious brainwashing and a result of the pressure a woman feels after getting into a relationship with a man. The woman, it can be argued, also changed her religious identity because of the stigma she believes she might face if she chooses to walk out of a deceptive relationship. However, for the purpose of documenting hate crimes, the cases in this subcategory are limited to those where there is explicit violence aimed at religious conversion against the wishes of the victim (force-feeding beef, blackmailing with intimate videos, rape on refusal to convert, etc), or if the woman herself complains of the man’s religious deception. In such cases, it is established that the deception of the non-Hindu man had a specific aim of religious conversion or targeting of the victim due to her Hindu religious identity, therefore, making it a religiously motivated hate crime. What gives this case a distinct religious angle is that the Muslim perpetrator actively hid his religion and pretended to be a Hindu to ensnare the Hindu woman. He then took sexual advantage of the victim and eventually abandoned her. Since the religious motive of the crime is evident from these facts, this case has been documented as a hate crime.
