Muslim youth pretends to be a Hindu, rapes Hindu woman, force-feeds her beef and converts her to Islam

Case Summary
In the Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, a Muslim man posed as a Hindu, and later raped a Hindu woman. He also force-fed the victim beef and converted her to Islam. On July 20, 2023, the victim lodged a complaint at the Vijay Nagar police station and two teams were formed to arrest the accused who has been identified as Khalid Chaudhary. The victim stated that she received a Facebook friend request from a boy named Deepak in the year 2020. The two interacted occasionally. After six months, the victim met the accused and learned that the man she had been chatting with for months was actually Khalid Chaudhary. When she tried to distance herself from him, he started blackmailing her using her personal videos and pictures. The accused raped her multiple times after that. The accused continued to rape the victim even when she got pregnant. Consequently, the baby in her womb died. The accused Khalid soon started pressuring her to convert to Islam and would take the victim to Nizamuddin Mosque. On his birthday, Khalid forcefully got his name tattooed on the victim's waist. He forced her to eat the meat of cows and other animals. He also asked her to always wear Hijab, forcibly converted her to Islam and even changed her name.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. In some cases, the woman eventually accepts the man’s original religious identity and converts after the man’s identity is revealed. These cases could be argued as cases of religious brainwashing and a result of the pressure a woman feels after getting into a relationship with a man. The woman, it can be argued, also changed her religious identity because of the stigma she believes she might face if she chooses to walk out of a deceptive relationship. However, for the purpose of documenting hate crimes, the cases in this subcategory are limited to those where there is explicit violence aimed at religious conversion against the wishes of the victim (force-feeding beef, blackmailing with intimate videos, rape on refusal to convert, etc), or if the woman herself complains of the man’s religious deception. In such cases, it is established that the deception of the non-Hindu man had a specific aim of religious conversion or targeting of the victim due to her Hindu religious identity, therefore, making it a religiously motivated hate crime. What gives this case a distinct religious angle is that the Muslim perpetrator actively hid his religion and pretended to be a Hindu to ensnare the Hindu woman. Further, when his real identity was revealed, he inflicted torture and forcefully converted the Hindu victim to Islam. He breached the girl's Hindu religious practices by forcefully feeding her beef. The Hindu victim was pressured to follow Islamic practices like wearing a hijab and visiting a mosque against her will. Further, force-feeding beef holds specific religious significance since Hindus consider the cow sacred. Force-feeding beef to a Hindu is a specific hate crime perpetrated to desecrate the victim's faith and convert the victim to Islam. Since the religious motive of the crime is evident from these facts, this case has been documented as a hate crime.
