Hindu girl lured, deceived into relationship, forced to undergo multiple abortion by a Muslim man pretending to be Hindu

Case Summary
In Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, a Hindu woman was lured and deceived into marriage by a Muslim man named Mubarik Sheikh, who posed as a Hindu. The whole deception started in 2014, when a Muslim constable, named Mubarik Sheikh, met the Hindu girl through social media by introducing himself as Anil Solanki, a false Hindu identity. Over time, their friendship turned into a relationship. The victim states that Mubarik promised marriage, engaged in physical relations and coerced her into undergoing four abortions during this period. In 2019, the woman came to know about the real identity of Mubarik Sheikh as a Muslim, and he admitted to lying to gain her trust. When the victim threatened him with legal action, he married her in July 2020. However, the marriage quickly deteriorated as the accused refused to let the woman meet his family. Taking matters into her own hands, the victim visited his home in Khargone, where she was verbally abused and thrown out of the house by Mubarik’s mother and sisters. It was then revealed that Mubarik Sheikh had already married a Muslim girl and had two children with her. The Hindu woman then approached the police and filed a case against him for cheating and deception. As of the date of writing this report, the investigation was ongoing.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the tracker under the primary category of: - Crimes against women in relationships and other sexual crimes. Within it, the sub-category selected is: - Man pretends to be Hindu, with the tertiary category being: - Name changed. When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. In some cases, the woman eventually accepts the man’s original religious identity and converts after the man’s identity is revealed. These cases could be argued as cases of religious brainwashing and a result of the pressure a woman feels after getting into a relationship with a man. The woman, it can be argued, also changed her religious identity because of the stigma she believes she might face if she chooses to walk out of a deceptive relationship. However, for the purpose of documenting hate crimes, the cases in this subcategory are limited to those where there is explicit violence aimed at religious conversion against the wishes of the victim (force-feeding beef, blackmailing with intimate videos, rape on refusal to convert, etc), or if the woman herself complains of the man’s religious deception. In such cases, it is established that the deception of the non-Hindu man had a specific aim of religious conversion or targeting of the victim due to her Hindu religious identity, therefore, making it a religiously motivated hate crime. This incident qualifies as a hate crime due to the clear presence of religiously motivated targeting, deception, and abuse. The Muslim constable deliberately concealed his Muslim religious identity to initiate and sustain a relationship with a Hindu woman. This itself is a clear manifestation of bias and malicious intent towards the victim's religion. By concealing his true identity, he exploited her trust, targeting her under false pretences. This indicates a premeditated intent to manipulate her based on her religious background. In cases like these, the tactic of adopting a false Hindu identity to manipulate and "ensnare" a Hindu individual is not just an act of personal betrayal but can also be interpreted as an expression of disdain or disregard for Hinduism and its customs that reflects a deeper animosity towards Hindus and their beliefs. Furthermore, when the victim confronted the accused, he married her just to pacify her. He had no genuine interest in the relationship, instead, his only goal was to trap and sexually exploit a Hindu girl. It was also revealed that the accused was already married and had two children, which he hid from the victim. The perpetrator’s actions were motivated by prejudice against the woman’s religious identity. By intentionally deceiving her using a fake Hindu name and sexually exploiting her, he demonstrated clear hostility rooted in religious bias. Therefore, this case has been added to the tracker. Disclaimer: Media reports state that the victim’s ordeal began when she met the accused in 2022, though no exact date or month is provided. To document this case, we have used an indicative date—January 1, 2022—as a placeholder to represent the beginning of her suffering. While media coverage of the incident emerged on May 24, 2025, the Hinduphobia Tracker records the incident based on when the victim’s ordeal began, not when it was reported.
