Case Summary

In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, a controversy ignited over the selective targeting and sexual assault of multiple Hindu women, including minor girls. This case came to light when a minor Hindu girl revealed that she was molested by a 38-year-old Muslim man named Mohsin Khan. Several other Hindu women were selectively targeted and blackmailed by the accused for sexual exploitation. According to media reports, Mohsin is a resident of Annapoorna Silver Oak Colony. He operated a shooting academy named 'Dream Olympic Academy' in the same locality. The victim, who lived in the Malharganj area, used to visit the academy to learn shooting. She stated that, during her visits from 2021 to November 2023, Mohsin would attempt to touch her inappropriately. The victim recounted, "I used to learn shooting at the academy, where Mohsin would touch me inappropriately while handling the rifle. When I pushed and kicked him, and asked, 'How dare you do such disgusting things to me?', he would say, 'If you want to practise at the academy, you will have to do as I say.'" The accused further threatened to destroy the victim’s career and life if she did not comply with his demands. Out of fear, the victim stopped going to the academy. When her mother questioned her about this, she revealed her ordeal. Initially, she did not lodge a complaint due to fear of social stigma. Later, on Tuesday night (May 20, 2025), the young woman mustered the courage to go to the police station, accompanied by members of the Bajrang Dal organisation, and filed a complaint against Mohsin. The police swiftly acted and arrested Mohsin under the POCSO Act and other sections of BNS, and presented him in the court on Wednesday (21 May 2025), from where he was sent to jail. The police found a significant amount of objectionable content on Mohsin’s phone, including chats with nearly 100-150 Hindu women and numerous obscene pictures with as many as 10 different girl students. Media reports stated that the accused selectively targeted and lured Hindu women into relationships and then sexually exploited them. He would further capture obscene pictures and videos of the women with the intent to blackmail them. However, only one victim, that is the minor Hindu girl, spoke out against Mohsin’s actions. The police stated that they would contact other women associated with the shooting academy to gather more information regarding the events that occurred in the academy.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

This case has been added to the tracker under the primary category of - Crimes against women in relationships and other sexual crimes. The sub-category selected here is - Brainwashed and/or groomed, and with the tertiary sub-categories being - Pattern of targeting Hindu minors and Rape and sexual assault/harassment. In our database, we have not added incidents where women have converted to another religion of their free will and no allegations of forced/involuntary conversion have been made. However, there are certain cases of conversion where the consent itself is a result of the brainwashing or grooming of a minor by the non-Hindu perpetrator trying to victimise a woman for her Hindu religious identity. The phenomenon of grooming points to non-Hindu perpetrators identifying their Hindu victims’ vulnerabilities and exploiting them over months and sometimes years, to extract the supposed ‘consent’ in order to convert their religion. In most cases of grooming, the victims are minors or the grooming started when the victim was a minor. In other cases of grooming, the non-Hindu perpetrator brainwashes and grooms a minor victim to extract their trust and then proceeds to rape them repeatedly with the intent of converting them to their faith. It is pertinent to understand here that when the victim is a minor, the ‘consent’ to convert or enter into a romantic relationship with an adult itself is redundant – addressed by POCSO. While every case of conversion of a minor and incidents of establishing a physical relationship with a minor by an adult is a crime, for the purpose of this database, a case would be considered a hate crime only if there is a distinct religious angle to the grooming. For example, in the UK, if a Hindu minor is targeted by Pakistani grooming gangs, it would be considered a hate crime because the victims are specifically targeted owing to their non-Muslim religious identity, with the perpetrators being Muslim. In other cases, if a Hindu minor is brainwashed into entering a physical relationship with the non-Hindu adult perpetrator and the family alleges grooming/brainwashing of the minor to convert her religion, it would form a part of this database. If the victim is a Hindu adult, the case would form a part of this database only if the victim herself says that she was brainwashed/groomed to convert her religion. However, if the victim is deceased (murdered or otherwise), the case would form a part of this database if her family/friends provided testimony that the victim was brainwashed/groomed to convert her religion. Since these crimes have a distinct religious angle where the victim is being targeted owing to her Hindu religious identity, these cases are considered a hate crime. In this case, the accused, Mohsin Khan, selectively targeted Hindu women, including minors, for sexual exploitation. The survivor’s testimony, combined with digital evidence recovered from the accused’s phone, revealed a consistent pattern of predatory behavior directed at women of a specific religious background. The fact that chats and explicit content involved 100–150 Hindu women suggests this was not a random or opportunistic crime, but one driven by religious profiling and systematic exploitation. Khan used his position of authority at the shooting academy to manipulate, molest, and blackmail women. His repeated focus on Hindu women and minors underscores a pattern of abuse steeped in power dynamics and faith-based targeting. This is particularly concerning given the grooming-like methods he allegedly employed, which involved coercion, threats, and psychological pressure. Although some may interpret the acts as opportunistic or isolated, the evidence of selective targeting clearly indicates otherwise. The crimes were committed over a prolonged period and involved victims from the same religious group, pointing to an intent to exploit based on religious identity. Since this case represents more than sexual misconduct and embodies a faith-based hate crime, where religion played a central role in victim selection and abuse, it is being documented in the Hinduphobia Tracker within the hate crime database. Disclaimer: Media reports state that the victim’s ordeal began when she started visiting the academy in 2021, though no exact date or month is provided. To document this case, we have used an indicative date—January 1, 2021—as a placeholder to represent the beginning of her suffering. While media coverage of the incident emerged on May 22, 2025, the Hinduphobia Tracker records the incident based on when the victim’s ordeal began, not when it was reported. Additionally, media reports indicate that the accused targeted approximately 100–150 Hindu women, including minors. However, only one minor has come forward, and videos of 10 other women were reportedly found on the accused's phone; therefore, we have recorded the victim count as 11 in the database. Moreover, the reports do not specify how many of these 10 women were minors or adults. Therefore, with only one confirmed minor, we have classified her as such and placed the remaining 10 victims under the 'unknown age' category.
