Hindu girl stabbed to death by Muslim man for being rejected for relationship

Case Summary
In Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, a Hindu girl named Laxmi Ahirwar was brutally murdered by a Muslim man named Abdul Samad. Laxmi was originally a resident of Khajuraho and had come to Jabalpur with her family to work as a labourer near Devtal Garden. In January 2025, she met Abdul while working in Nagpur. Abdul worked in a water plant there. They became friends and started talking over phone. When Laxmi returned to Khajuraho, Abdul gifted her a mobile phone worth ₹10,000 to stay connected. However, from May onwards, Laxmi started ignoring his call leading Abdul to suspect that she had started talking to someone else. He checked the call history of Laxmi and discovered that she was talking with a boy from Khajuraho. This further intensified his suspicions and jealousy. It turned out that Laxmi decided to break the relationship with Abdul because he was a Muslim. This deeply enraged Abdul who decided to travel to Jabalpur on May 7 and 8 under the pretext of meeting her. On May 9, he brought sweets and insisted that Laxmi swear that she would not to talk to any other boy. When she refused to take the oath or eat the sweets, Abdul lost control and in a fit of rage stabbed Laxmi multiple times in the stomach, killing her. Following the murder, Abdul fled the scene and hid in a local hotel. He was planning to escape to Nagpur, but the police arrested him at Andhumuk bypass by tracking him through his mobile phone. As of the date of writing this report, the accused was sent to central jail.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the 'Undecided' database due to the absence of concrete evidence suggesting a religious motive behind the crime or that the victim was targeted based on her religious identity. While this is on the lines of a pattern where Hindu women have been targeted by Muslim men for various nefarious purposes, such as religious conversion, but without clear evidence, it would be inappropriate to categorise this as a Hindu hate crime. As of now, the primary motive appears to stem from personal betrayal and emotional instability, a crime of passion rather than any ideological or religious intent. However, should further information emerge during the investigation, particularly regarding any religious motivation behind the crime, the case will be re-evaluated and reclassified as a hate crime.
