Hindu woman lured away by Muslim man, victim's family fears she was abducted for religious conversion

Case Summary
In Panipat, Haryana, a 20-year-old Hindu woman was lured into eloping by a Muslim man. The woman’s family has expressed concerns, alleging that the accused deliberately enticed the woman and abducted her with the underlying agenda of religious conversion. According to news reports, the victim’s family worked as labourers in a factory, while the woman remained at home after completing her studies. On the day of the incident, the victim’s parents left for work, but upon their return, they found that she was missing. The family stated that the woman had received a call from a suspicious mobile number, after which she left the house, taking all her important documents with her. When they attempted to contact the number, the phone was found to be switched off. Despite their constant efforts to locate her, the parents were unsuccessful. They clearly expressed their concern and said that their daughter had been lured away by a Muslim man using religious deception, and they believe that he deliberately trapped her to convert her to Islam. The victim’s parents reported the matter to the police. Given the seriousness of the situation, the police swiftly registered a missing persons report and began searching for the woman. At the time of writing this report, the station in charge had stated that the location of the mobile number was being traced, and the individuals concerned were being questioned.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, a Hindu woman was lured into eloping by a Muslim man. The victim’s family alleged that she was enticed through deception, with an underlying agenda of religious conversion to Islam. This case potentially reflects religious targeting, as multiple past instances have demonstrated a recurring pattern in which Muslim perpetrators have targeted Hindu women through coercion, deception, or force, often with the intention of conversion. Hindu women are the most vulnerable to crimes such as abduction, forced conversion, and rape at the hands of Muslim men. However, here the victim is an adult and possesses full legal autonomy and the capacity to provide informed consent to elope with whomever she chooses. It is also important to note that the victim has not issued any statement regarding this matter. In the absence of her testimony or any other concrete evidence, such as proof of coercion, force, or religious targeting, the case will remain in the ‘Undecided’ category. It may be reclassified if future details substantiate a clear hate crime or religiously motivated offence.
