Dalit Hindu woman raped by Muslim man in Madhya Pradesh

Case Summary
A 19-year-old Dalit Hindu woman was raped by a 22-year-old Muslim man named Ayaan Ali, under the pretext of offering her a lift to Ratlam. According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, the victim belonged to the Dalit community, and the incident occurred on 23rd April 2025. When the incident occurred, the victim was on her way to Ratlam. Ayaan Ali, a resident of Semliya, encountered her and offered her a lift on his bike. She accepted his offer and got onto his motorbike, but instead of taking her to Ratlam, Ayaan took her to a hotel in Dhonswas village, where he raped her. Hindu organisations became aware of the incident on 15th May 2025, after which they went to the Namli police station demanding that the accused be apprehended. The victim’s family also arrived at the police station and lodged a complaint against Ayaan. Namli police acted promptly and took the accused, Ayaan Ali, into custody. Ratlam Rural SDOP, Kishore Patanwala, stated that, following the victim’s complaint, a case was registered against the accused under Section 64(1) and the SC/ST Act of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the police have commenced further investigation into the case.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, a Hindu woman was raped by a Muslim man named Ayaan Ali. This could potentially be a crime motivated by religious profiling, as it has been observed that in many cases, Muslim perpetrators target Hindu women and girls due to inherent animosity towards Hindus, particularly Hindu women. Hindu women and girls are very vulnerable to crimes like rape and sexual assault at the hands of Muslim men. However, it is also possible that the crime was one of opportunity, where the Hindu woman was simply accessible to the Muslim perpetrator, Ayaan. However, it could also be argued that for a Muslim perpetrator, a Muslim woman would likely be more accessible than a Hindu woman. The fact that the perpetrator specifically targeted the Hindu woman could suggest religious profiling of the victim. Nevertheless, this remains speculative, as the case details provide no clear indication of religious motivations. Furthermore, neither the victim nor her family has made any statements suggesting a religious motive behind the crime. For this reason, the case has been added to the 'Undecided' database. If further information emerges that hints towards a religiously motivated crime, then it would be reclassified and included under the Hate Crime database.
