Case Summary

A dispute broke out between members of the Hindu and Muslim communities during separate wedding ceremonies being held in adjacent venues on Air Force Road, within the jurisdiction of Saran Police Station in Faridabad. The incident began when guests from a Muslim gathering discarded used plates and non-vegetarian food near the food stalls of the neighbouring Hindu wedding. This sparked objections from a member of the Hindu family, following which a physical altercation took place. Manoj, a resident of Kapda Colony and brother of the bride at the Hindu wedding being held at Saifi Garden, was injured during the scuffle after he raised concerns over the discarded food. He was taken to the hospital and discharged after receiving basic medical treatment. The other wedding, held simultaneously at Nafisa Garden, was a Muslim wedding hosted by the family of Shamim. The proximity of the two venues and the nature of the incident led to heightened tension among those present. Upon receiving a call via Dial-112, multiple police teams from Saran, Pawartiya Colony, and Dabua Colony police stations arrived at the scene. Police officials, including spokesperson Yashpal Singh, confirmed that officers were able to control the situation promptly. Both wedding ceremonies were completed under police supervision, and the atmosphere was brought back to calm. No official complaint was filed by either party.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

The disposal of non-vegetarian food near the vegetarian food stalls at the Hindu wedding could be perceived as a deliberate act to provoke Hindus, especially considering that many Hindus maintain vegetarian diets for religious and cultural reasons. However, since no explicit evidence, such as anti-Hindu slurs, has surfaced, this case is currently categorised as Undecided. If further evidence emerges, it will be reclassified under the Hate Crime Database.
