Minor Hindu girl subjected to rape and brutality by Muslim man

Case Summary
In the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal, a Muslim man named Mantaj Hossain (25) raped a minor Hindu girl. After sexually assaulting the minor, Mantaj inserted a fork in her anus and fled. The girl's parents are employed at a nearby garment factory, due to which she used to stay at home with her elder sister during the day. According to reports, Mantaj had been stalking the elder sister, a Class VIII student, for several months. He persistently approached her with unwanted advances and proposals, which she firmly rejected. Angered by the rejection, Mantaj began threatening her, prompting the family to send her to a relative’s house for safety. Following this, the younger girl remained alone at home while her parents were at work. A few days ago, while the 11-year-old was alone, Mantaj forcibly entered the house and threatened her at knifepoint and raped her. Then, Mantaj inserted a fork in her anus and fled. When the girl's parents returned home from work, they found her in a bleeding state. Despite her trauma, she managed to recount the horrific ordeal she had endured. They immediately took her to a nearby hospital, from where she was referred to Tamluk Hospital for further treatment. Upon receiving the complaint, the police promptly initiated an investigation. However, the accused, Mantaj Hossain, had gone into hiding. He was later arrested from the New Town area in Kolkata.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, the perpetrator abducted and raped a Hindu minor. There are suspicions that the Hindu child was targeted owing to her religious identity. From the details available, it is entirely possible that the crime was one of opportunity - where the child was simply accessible to the perpetrator.
