In the Malihabad area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a Muslim man named Salman was arrested after attacking his Dalit neighbour, Priyanshu Raidas, over a minor dispute. The incident occurred when Priyanshu was walking on the road with his friend Anand after dinner. During the encounter, Salman, who lived just ten steps away, suddenly pulled out a knife and slit Priyanshu’s throat multiple times. When Anand tried to intervene, Salman attacked him as well, leaving both boys seriously injured. Both victims were rushed to the hospital. While Anand was discharged after receiving primary treatment, Priyanshu was admitted to the trauma centre due to the severity of his injuries. According to police, Salman appeared to have arrived prepared to carry out the attack, and the nature of the wounds — including three slashes to Priyanshu’s throat from the front and side — suggested an intent to kill. The attacker did not flee the scene and was apprehended shortly after the police were informed. Priyanshu remained in critical condition at the hospital, battling for his life. The police confirmed that the motive stemmed from a trivial argument, though they also stated that other angles were being explored in the investigation. Salman was taken into custody and questioned regarding the attack.
