Members of radical Left-wing organisation attack Hindu man for questioning Communist leader's anti-Hindu speech
Case Summary
During an SFI rally in Rampurhat city, West Bengal, an unidentified Hindu man questioned Communist Party leader Dipsita Dhar's focus on Ram Mandir, accusing her of neglecting other issues. “You are ranting against Hindus from that time; I dare you to comment something about the Muslim community as well,” the man was also heard saying. He was then attacked by SFI supporters, although he did not pose any physical threat to Dhar. Dipsita Dhar failed to intervene, instead portraying herself as a victim and suggesting the man's limited understanding. Dhar, who serves as Joint Secretary of Students' Federation of India (SFI) and contested in the 2021 Lok Sabha elections, had come third in her constituency.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In several cases, Hindus are attacked for opposing religiously motivated crimes being committed against a fellow Hindu or simply for voicing an opinion opposing radical elements, who either have in the past or continue to persecute Hindus. In such cases, the initial attack against the victim, against which the Hindu was trying to defend the victim, would also need to be classified as a religiously motivated hate crime. Since the initial crime itself was religiously motivated and the subsequent crime of attempting to save the victim or speaking against the radical elements ends up inviting a violent attack, it would also be classified as a religiously motivated hate crime under this category.
