Muslim man poses as a Hindu, rapes and kills Hindu girl for refusing to have sex, arrested

Case Summary
In Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh, a Muslim man named Sikandar was arrested by the police on June 26, 2023 for allegedly trapping a Hindu girl, sexually assaulting her, and then murdering her by crushing her face with a cement block. The incident occurred after Sikandar, pretending to be a Hindu named Sonu, met the girl at a wedding and lured her into meeting him alone. He raped and assaulted her, then fled the scene after assuming she was dead. However, the girl was discovered by her family, struggling for life, and was rushed to the hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries. The police have filed charges against the accused, initially for attempted murder, with further charges pending based on post-mortem reports. The victim, from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, had travelled to Fatehpur for her cousin's wedding where she fell victim to Sikandar's scheme.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. In this case, a non-Hindu man concealed his religious identity and pretended to be a Hindu to lure a Hindu woman. Since the religious motive of the crime is evident from the fact that the man pretended to be a Hindu to trap a Hindu woman, this case has been documented as a hate crime.
