On October 8, 2023, reports emerged that a Hindu girl was gang-raped and murdered at Qasim Wala Bangla in the Cholistan desert in Pakistan. The body was found lying near the Bhutta Canal. The victim’s father revealed that his daughter was kidnapped while she went to relieve herself in the desert during the late hours of the night. This incident adds to the growing concern over the forced conversion, rape, and forced marriages of Hindu women in Pakistan.

In this case, there is a strong suspicion that the Hindu woman was targeted by the Muslim doctors because of her religious identity. In Pakistan, minority Hindus are often dehumanised, attacked, murdered and persecuted on a regular basis. Hindu woman and minors are particularly vulnerable in Pakistan where they are often abducted, raped, converted to Islam and then forcefully married off to their Muslim abductors. When Hindus are persecuted in Islamic nations like Pakistan, Bangladesh, there is always a suspicion that religious hostility plays a part. However, in this case, it is also possible that it was a crime of opportunity, and therefore, it is being added to the undecided database.
