Hindu ASI senior surveyor killed by his Muslim colleague

Case Summary
On 28 August 2023, a senior surveyor working in the Survey of India was murdered by one of his colleagues over a monetary issue. The deceased was identified as Mahesh. The accused Anees, admitted to murdering Mahesh. The crime was committed over a monetary dispute. According to reports, Mahesh had lent nine lakh rupees to Anees. After some time, Mahesh started pressuring Anees to return his money, but Anees started making excuses and buying time under one pretext or the other. Meanwhile, the duo also got into a fight over a female colleague. A female employee worked in Anees and Mahesh's office. This girl and Anees were friends before Mahesh grew close to her. The duo had a fight over this, with Anees accusing Mahesh of harassing his girlfriend. After this episode, Anees decided to get rid of Mahesh. According to reports, the accused plotted for 20 days before killing Mahesh. Investigations revealed that Anish had purchased plastic sheeting and a shovel. In the afternoon, he lured Mahesh to his residence in RK Puram Sector 2. At approximately noon, Anish took Mahesh's life using a pipe wrench. To evade suspicion, Anish swiftly returned to his home in Sonipat, leaving his phone behind. He buried Mahesh's body in a shallow pit behind a government house, cementing the floor to conceal the crime. The police eventually recovered the victim's body on September 2. The accused had stuffed the victim's body in 5 polythene bags and buried it in his house's courtyard.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, there is a suspicion that religious supremacy played a role in the murder of the Hindu victim, especially, since they both worked at ASI. There are often cases where the trigger of the violence may appear non-religious in nature, like the money dispute as mentioned in the case details, however, it is the underlying religious animosity and hostility which leads to the perpetrator taking the extreme step to indulge in the murder of the victim. In this, however, there is no information that would lead one to conclude that the murder had a religious motivation. There is also no allegation by the family of the victim.
