Muslim man in Jharkhand traps Hindu woman, blackmails them into converting to Islam with their private pictures, then sells them in different cities

Case Summary
Jharkhand's Giridih Police has arrested Saddam Hussain, who exploited women by luring them into love on social media. During the arrest, Saddam was taking a woman on a train to Kolkata against her will. The victim has been freed safely. The accused was arrested on September 10, 2023. It is said that Saddam used to force girls to convert and sell them in different cities. According to media reports, Saddam is a resident of Badidih in the Gaona police station area of Girdih. A victim from the Nimiaghat area had lodged a complaint at the cyber police station of Giridih on September 9, 2023. In the complaint, the victim stated that Saddam Hussain, who is married and has kids, made fake profiles on social media where he posed as a bachelor to ensnare Hindu women. The victim confirmed that even she had fallen into his trap and agreed to go and meet him in a hotel when he called him there. When the victim met the accused in the hotel room, he first pretended to marry her by applying sindoor (vermillion) on her forehead. He then forcefully established sexual relations with her. He recorded the act and subsequently started using the video to blackmail the victim. After a few days, the accused started insisting on taking the victim with him to Kolkata. When the woman protested against this, she was threatened not only with making her objectionable photos and videos viral but also with the threat of destroying her entire family. Fed up with Saddam's threats and being forced to go to Kolkata, the victim lodged a complaint at the cyber police station in Giridih. Based on the complaint the police arrested Saddam. During interrogation, the accused's long criminal history came to light. Police revealed that numerous girls had already fallen prey to him. It is said that the accused sold the women in several cities after forcing them to convert.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
When Hindu women are in a relationship with non-Hindu men, there are cases where the woman is blackmailed to convert her religion, owing to her religious identity of being a Hindu. Such relationships may be consensual with the religious identity of the non-Hindu man known to the victim, however, there could be cases where the relationship is not consensual and the non-Hindu man starts blackmailing a Hindu woman to convert her religion. In these cases, it is often seen that the Hindu woman is blackmailed with intimate photos and/or videos, threats of harm to her or her family, threats of violence etc. Such cases are driven by specific religious motivations and against the religious identity of the victim and are therefore qualified as hate crimes. In this case, the Muslim perpetrator trapped the Hindu woman by luring them on social media. After gaining the woman's trust, the accused sexually assaulted her and blackmailed her to convert to Islam using her private pictures.
