Case Summary
An incident of rape and murder of a 16-year-old Dalit girl has come to light in the Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh. The three raped her in turns and then killed her by hanging her from a fan. According to local media, the Dalit family and the rapists were at odds with each other over a dispute they had a few days ago and the accused reportedly carried out the heinous act in retribution. Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, a woman was raped, and murdered by Muslim perpetrators. It has often been seen that Muslim perpetrators target Hindu women owing to intrinsic animosity towards Hindus, specifically Hindu women. However, due to the lack of concrete indication of a religious motive, this case is being categorized as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
