Muslim mob pelts stones, attacks Hindu man and his family for removing bricks lying outside a mosque in Bareilly, UP
Case Summary
On August 24, tensions flared in a village in Bareilly when a group of Muslim men threw stones after a man attempted to clear bricks outside a mosque. In Memudpur village of Aonla Tehsil, Bareilly district, a Hindu man named Nempal clashed with Saddique, a mosque visitor, who allegedly insulted Nempal's mother. A verbal altercation occurred, briefly subdued by bystanders. Later, a Muslim mob attacked Nempal's shop, injuring his family and causing property damage. A video of the incident circulated on social media. Police filed a case against 18 individuals from both communities based on Nempal's complaint, with 11 arrests made.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, it is clear that the Hindu victim was attacked for his offense of removing bricks from outside the mosque. The brutality with which the victim and the family were attacked indicates that the Muslims took offence to a Hindu man removing bricks from outside the mosque and were not offended merely for the bricks being removed. However, since there is no direct statement either from the victims or the police, this case is being categorised as undecided. If more information emerges, it will be added to the hate crime database.
