Hindu woman trapped, raped and blackmailed by Muslim man to force conversion and nikah
Case Summary
In Indore’s Dwarkapuri area, a Hindu woman lodged a complaint against a Muslim man named Danish, exposing a case of exploitation and religious coercion. She revealed that Danish repeatedly raped her, filmed videos, and used them to blackmail her while pressuring her to perform Nikah with him. When she refused, he assaulted her and threatened to ruin her life. The victim, who identifies as Hindu despite her father being Muslim, stated that Danish constantly argued with her about religion, mocked her Hindu faith, and forced her to accept Islam. When she resisted, he claimed that his religion allowed multiple marriages and even threatened to sabotage her future marriage prospects by leaking her photos. According to her testimony, Danish first lured her under the pretense of friendship and later called her to a hotel in Rajendra Nagar in August 2025, where he raped her and made videos to blackmail her. He continued to threaten her by saying he would make the videos viral and forced her to meet him in different hotels. On September 18, he again summoned her to a hotel, and later near Sirpur Talab, where after a dispute, he assaulted her. The victim, terrified by the repeated harassment, shared the ordeal with Bajrang Dal activists, who immediately took her to Dwarkapuri police station late at night. When the police were recording her statement, Bajrang Dal activists demanded swift action, stating that this was not any normal crime but where the Hindu girl was targeted for her faith. They staged a protest outside the police station, reciting Hanuman Chalisa and refusing to leave until action was taken. Under pressure, the police registered a case against Danish, but activists confirmed that the authorities were initially reluctant to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserved. The incident underscores how Hindu women continue to be singled out, deceived, and attacked in the name of religious supremacy, with perpetrators using coercion and violence to break their faith and dignity.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The first primary category selected here is- Crimes against women in relationships and other sexual crimes. Within this, the first subcategory selected is- Forced conversion before marriage, and the tertiary category selected is- Forced to do Nikah. In such cases, a non-Hindu man is in a relationship with a Hindu woman when the pressure to convert her religion begins to manifest. In such cases, typically, two patterns emerge. First, when the relationship is consensual, and the religious identity of the perpetrator is known to the Hindu woman in the relationship, however, at some point during the relationship, the non-Hindu man starts to force the victim to convert her religion and give up her Hindu religious identity. The second is when the woman gets into a marriage with the man pretending to share her faith. Later, when the truth is revealed, the man starts pressuring the woman to convert her religion and give up her religious identity. In both the situations, the methods used to force the victim to convert her religion often revolve around force-feeding beef, forcing her to wear hijab, forcing her to read the Kalma or even pressurizing the victim to do ‘Nikah’, which is marriage under Islamic law, with a prerequisite being conversion to Islam. Cases where a Hindu woman consensually converts to Islam in a relationship will be left out of the hate crime database, even though it could be argued in several cases that the conversion was a result of religious brainwashing. The second subcategory selected is- Blackmailed to convert. When Hindu women are in a relationship with non-Hindu men, there are cases where the woman is blackmailed to convert her religion, owing to her religious identity of being a Hindu. Such relationships may be consensual with the religious identity of the non-Hindu man known to the victim, however, there could be cases where the relationship is not consensual and the non-Hindu man starts blackmailing a Hindu woman to convert her religion. In these cases, it is often seen that the Hindu woman is blackmailed with intimate photos and/or videos, threats of harm to her or her family, threats of violence etc. Such cases are driven by specific religious motivations and against the religious identity of the victim and are therefore qualified as hate crimes. The third subcategory relevant is- Brainwashed and/or groomed. Within this the tertiary category chosen is- Rape and sexual assault/harassment. In our database, we have not added incidents where women have converted to another religion of their free will and no allegations of forced/involuntary conversion have been made. However, there are certain cases of conversion where the consent itself is a result of the brainwashing or grooming of a minor by the non-Hindu perpetrator trying to victimise a woman for her Hindu religious identity. The phenomenon of grooming points to non-Hindu perpetrators identifying their Hindu victims’ vulnerabilities and exploiting them over months and sometimes years, to extract the supposed ‘consent’ in order to convert their religion. In most cases of grooming, the victims are minors or the grooming started when the victim was a minor. In other cases of grooming, the non-Hindu perpetrator brainwashes and grooms a minor victim to extract their trust and then proceeds to rape them repeatedly with the intent of converting them to their faith. It is pertinent to understand here that when the victim is a minor, the ‘consent’ to convert or enter into a romantic relationship with an adult itself is redundant – addressed by POCSO. While every case of conversion of a minor and incidents of establishing a physical relationship with a minor by an adult is a crime, for the purpose of this database, a case would be considered a hate crime only if there is a distinct religious angle to the grooming. For example, in the UK, if a Hindu minor is targeted by Pakistani grooming gangs, it would be considered a hate crime because the victims are specifically targeted owing to their non-Muslim religious identity with the perpetrators being Muslim. In other cases, if a Hindu minor is brainwashed into entering a physical relationship with the non-Hindu adult perpetrator and the family alleges grooming/brainwashing of the minor to convert her religion, it would form a part of this database. If the victim is a Hindu adult, the case would form a part of this database only if the victim herself says that she was brainwashed/groomed to convert her religion. However, if the victim is deceased (murdered or otherwise), the case would form a part of this database if her family/friends provided testimony that the victim was brainwashed/groomed to convert her religion. Since these crimes have a distinct religious angle where the victim is being targeted owing to her Hindu religious identity, these cases are considered a hate crime. The second category selected is- Predatory Proselytisation and within this, the subcategory selected is- Attempt to convert/converting by denigrating Hinduism. In several cases, Hindus are converted or an attempt is made to convert Hindus by denigrating their faith, Hinduism. In such cases, the Hindus associate with the non-Hindu perpetrators often by choice and then, the attempt to convert them by insulting their faith, showing the faith down etc begins. An example of this would be a non-Hindu gathering where the Hindus are attending the gathering of their own free will. However, once they attend the gathering, there is an explicit attempt to convert them by abusing their faith and hailing the faith of the perpetrator. The denigration of the Hindu faith is often based on misrepresentation of the Hindu faith, its doctrine and scriptures and insult to espoused traditions if not blatant lies about Hindu beliefs and ways. Such conversions or attempts at conversions are driven by animosity towards the Hindu faith and are therefore documented as religiously motivated hate crimes. The victim here was trapped in a relationship where the primary goal was not companionship, but to coerce her into leaving her Hindu identity and embracing Islam. The accused first lured her with promises of marriage and then began pressuring her to convert, making it clear that any relationship with him was conditional on her abandoning her religion. This tactic of demanding conversion before marriage reflects a deliberate attack on her Hindu faith, reducing the relationship to a tool for religious subjugation rather than mutual choice. When persuasion did not work, the accused escalated to blackmail. He raped the victim, filmed videos of the assaults, and used them as weapons to force her into compliance. Blackmail of this nature goes beyond personal crime because the threat was not merely about exposing private moments; it was aimed at crushing her spirit and cornering her into conversion. By placing her Hindu identity at the center of the coercion, the accused made clear that his intent was to humiliate her faith while ensuring she could not freely choose her path. Such exploitation weaponises vulnerability as a means to erase Hindu identity itself. Alongside this, the victim was systematically brainwashed and groomed. The accused repeatedly argued with her about Hinduism, mocking her beliefs and denigrating her traditions, while glorifying Islam as the only true faith. This psychological assault was designed to weaken her conviction in her own religion, creating confusion and dependency. Grooming of this kind is not limited to winning over a person’s affection but is structured to dismantle their religious identity and replace it with submission to another. By tying sexual exploitation with religious denigration, the crime becomes an attack on both her body and her soul. The repeated acts of rape and sexual assault were not isolated crimes of lust but served as tools of coercion. They were carefully intertwined with the larger objective of forcing her into nikah and conversion. Sexual violence here was instrumentalised to terrorise her into obedience, breaking down her resistance and ensuring compliance with the religious agenda. It symbolises the violation of both her dignity as a woman and her identity as a Hindu, making the crime twofold in its cruelty. Taken together, these acts show a form of predatory proselytisation where the accused used deception, intimidation, and violence to achieve conversion. By attacking the victim’s faith, dignity, and autonomy simultaneously, the crime is revealed as a hate-driven assault on Hindus as a community. Such actions are rooted in a mindset that views Hindu women not as individuals with agency, but as instruments through which Hindu identity can be degraded and erased. Disclaimer: The date of the incident has been recorded as August 23, 2025, based on the victim’s testimony that she was first raped and blackmailed by the accused in a hotel in Rajendra Nagar during August 2025. While subsequent assaults and threats continued in the following weeks, this particular event marks the beginning of the chain of crimes that shaped the case. Since no precise day in August was mentioned in the reports, we have chosen August 23, 2025, as the representative date for documenting the incident in the tracker. Hinduphobia Tracker records incidents based on when the victim’s ordeal began and not when it was reported in media.
