Hindu woman deceived, raped under pretext of marriage, and pressured for religious conversion by Muslim man pretending to be Hindu

Case Summary
In Jaipur, Rajasthan, a Hindu woman was deceived, raped, and pressured for religious conversion by a Muslim man named Ayan Khan. The accused pretended to be a Hindu in order to establish a romantic relationship with her. According to reports, the accused befriended the woman by introducing himself as a Hindu man named Amit Sharma. He gradually deceived her into a relationship and raped her multiple times on the pretext of marriage. When she later discovered that his real identity was Ayan Khan and that he was a Muslim who was already married, she confronted him. The victim revealed that Ayan had two Aadhaar cards, one in his real name and another under the fabricated identity of Amit Sharma. She provided phone recordings of his abusive and threatening behaviour, along with other documents, as evidence. Accompanied by Hawamahal BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya, she submitted her complaint to Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph, after which a case was registered at Chitrakoot police station. Acting upon the complaint, the police arrested Ayan Khan and recovered the fraudulent identity cards.

Secondly, through deliberate deception, the Hindu woman was sexually exploited by the Muslim perpetrator under the false pretext of marrying her. This was not a random act of sexual exploitation; it was a targeted assault driven by religious bias, aimed at singling out and violating a Hindu woman because of her religious identity. Such acts of exploitation by manipulation and religious profiling clearly underline the religiously motivated nature of this crime. Thirdly, after the woman discovered the perpetrator’s true identity, he coerced her into converting to Islam. This demonstrated that his deception and exploitation were carried out with the calculated intention of achieving his underlying objective of religious conversion. Such actions violated the woman’s fundamental right to practise her own faith and were an attempt to strip her of her Hindu identity. They reflected deep-seated religious hostility and disdain towards Hindus and Hinduism, making this a clear case of a religiously motivated offence. Furthermore, the victim was also subjected to physical assault and blackmail by the Muslim perpetrator to force her compliance with his demands. Using violence and blackmail as tools to coerce the conversion of a Hindu woman constitutes a clear case of religiously motivated crime.
