Minor Hindu girl abducted by Muslim man in Haryana's Yamunanagar
Case Summary
Relatives of a teenage Hindu girl accused a Muslim youth of luring and abducting her. The family members reached the Gandhi Nagar police station in Yamunanagar, Haryana, demanding action. Accompanying them were officials of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and BJP councillors, who also pressed for action. Following this, the police registered a case. The complainant, originally from Bihar, has been living with his family for several years in a colony under the Gandhi Nagar police station limits and works on Radaur Road, while his wife is employed in household cleaning work. According to the statement given at the Gandhi Nagar police station, on 9 September, the complainant’s wife took their 16-year-old daughter along with her to Jammu Colony for work. It was from there that the daughter went missing. During the search, the family learned that a Muslim youth, a resident of Jammu Colony, had abducted their minor daughter. Upon receiving information that the matter involved members of a particular community, VHP district secretary Ravi Sharma also arrived at the police station with his team. Alongside him, BJP councillors Dixit and Sandeep Dhiman were also present and demanded strict action from the station in charge. The police assured that the girl would be recovered soon and the accused arrested. A case was registered in this matter.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This incident showcases several hallmarks of a possible hate crime against the Hindu victim, rooted in their religious identity. While there was no clear or explicitly stated religious motivation, the central act, the abduction of a minor Hindu girl by a Muslim man, raised serious concerns about the presence of religious animosity. There is a well-established precedent of similar incidents where Hindu girls have been targeted by Muslim perpetrators due to deep-seated hostility towards their faith and community. In such cases, Hindu girls are subjected to sexual exploitation, physical assault, and forced to convert to Islam. However, since there is no direct religious motivation behind this crime, and neither the victim nor her family have pointed out a religious motive, this case is currently being added to the Undecided Database. If any further information emerges displaying a religious motivation behind the crime, then this case will be added to the hate crime database.
