In Jorhat district, Assam, a minor Hindu girl was deceived into a relationship and sexually exploited by a married Muslim man named Abdur Rahman, who posed as a Hindu. According to reports, the accused was a resident of Nagaon and had been working in Jorhat town for several years. He lured and befriended the victim in 2022, when she was just 11 years old and studying in Class Six, by assuming a fake Hindu identity. He maintained a relationship with the minor girl for over three years and sexually exploited her. On September 5, 2025, Teachers’ Day, the victim went to school but did not return. It turned out that the accused had eloped with the minor and taken her to Nagaon. Her family filed an FIR at Jorhat police station that evening, and the police launched an investigation. The initial investigation pointed to Abdur’s involvement, and on September 11, 2025, he was traced to Nagaon, where he was arrested by the police, and the victim was rescued. Further investigations revealed that the accused was already married and had three children, yet he targeted the victim through deception and false promises. He was booked under the POCSO Act and brought back to Jorhat for further legal proceedings. Local residents have demanded a strict investigation into the case and highlighted a growing pattern in which Muslims from the lower districts of Assam move to upper Assam to specifically target Hindu women and minor girls, particularly school-going students.
