Hindu girl student deceived in fake love affair and looted by Muslim youth posing as Hindu
Case Summary
A Hindu girl student from Rajasthan’s Pali district was lured by a Muslim youth from Aslampur, Thakurdwara, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, who concealed his identity by posing as Rahul while she was studying in Bengaluru. He trapped her in a false love affair and took her to his home around August 10-12, 2025. Her family later revealed that he had also stolen 16 lakh rupees and her educational certificates from their house. Acting on the family’s complaint, Bengaluru police raided the accused’s residence on 3 September 2025. In a bid to escape, the youth jumped from the rooftop with the girl, injuring her in the process. She was rescued and handed over safely to her family. The Muslim man was identified as Mubaraq. Vishwa Hindu Raksha Parishad (VHP) president Gopal Rai said that the whole matter came to light when it was reported on Sanatan Helpline in Nelamangala town in Bengaluru, and the Vishwa Hindu Raksha Parishad promptly alerted the Police. On September 4, 2025, the girl’s family approached Kotwali Thakurdwara police, demanding the return of the stolen amount and documents. The accused’s family initially brought 6 lakh rupees, requesting time for the rest, but the family refused. Later that evening, the full 16 lakh rupees and all certificates were returned in the presence of the police and panchayat members. Kotwali in-charge Inspector Jaspal Singh Gwal stated that the case of her disappearance was registered in Bengaluru, and the girl was formally reunited with her family.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The primary category in this case is: Crimes against women in relationships and other sexual crimes. The subcategory under this is: Man pretends to be Hindu. The tertiary category under this is: Name changed. When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. In some cases, the woman eventually accepts the man’s original religious identity and converts after the man’s identity is revealed. These cases could be argued as cases of religious brainwashing and a result of the pressure a woman feels after getting into a relationship with a man. The woman, it can be argued, also changed her religious identity because of the stigma she believes she might face if she chooses to walk out of a deceptive relationship. However, for the purpose of documenting hate crimes, the cases in this subcategory are limited to those where there is explicit violence aimed at religious conversion against the wishes of the victim (force-feeding beef, blackmailing with intimate videos, rape on refusal to convert, etc), or if the woman herself complains of the man’s religious deception. In such cases, it is established that the deception of the non-Hindu man had a specific aim of religious conversion or targeting of the victim due to her Hindu religious identity, therefore, making it a religiously motivated hate crime. This case has been added to the tracker as a clear instance of religiously motivated deception and exploitation, falling under the category of crimes against Hindu women in relationships where a Muslim man deliberately conceals his religious identity to trap a Hindu girl. The Muslim man, identified as Mubaraq, lured the Hindu student from Rajasthan by posing as Rahul, using a false identity to gain her trust while she was living away from her family in Bengaluru. While police intervention, prompted by the Vishwa Hindu Raksha Parishad, led to her rescue and the eventual return of the stolen money and documents, the sequence of events reflects a calculated targeting of a Hindu woman. The settlement of the case in the presence of police and panchayat members, with financial restitution, does not erase the crime or its religiously motivated undertones. The deliberate use of a Hindu name to lure the victim fits a broader pattern of such crimes, where Hindu women are entrapped under false pretences, often with the intent to convert or exert religious dominance. When a person deliberately conceals their religious identity and pretends to be a Hindu to deceive and ensnare a Hindu woman, this act transcends mere deception and enters the realm of a religiously motivated hate crime. It violates the victim’s trust and disrespects her religious beliefs. This act of deception is an affront to the victim's religious and cultural identity and is an insidious form of religious intolerance that seeks to exploit and undermine the very fabric of the victim's community. This incident also highlights the pervasive fear and social stigma that discourage families from pursuing formal legal action, leading to negotiated settlements rather than full prosecution. However, despite the resolution, the act itself remains a hate crime driven by deceit and religious hostility, underscoring the need to document and track such cases systematically to expose patterns of targeting Hindu women through identity fraud and coercion. Disclaimer: The date of the incident has been recorded as 10 August 2025, as the Amar Ujala report notes that the girl had been taken 22 days prior to her recovery. This is being used as a placeholder date. The Hinduphobia Tracker documents incidents based on when the victim’s ordeal began, rather than the date of reporting.
