Hindu woman lured, manipulated and deceived into relationship by a Muslim man posing as Hindu; accused linked to forced conversion and trafficking gang
Case Summary
In Mainpuri district, Uttar Pradesh, a 32-year-old Hindu woman was lured and trapped by a Muslim man named Uvaish Khan, who pretended to be a Hindu. According to reports, the victim was emotionally and mentally disturbed due to some family and personal reasons. Exploiting this vulnerability, the accused trapped the victim by concealing his religious identity and introducing himself as a Hindu man. Over time, he gained her trust and lured her into a relationship. On August 22, 2025, during the absence of her family, Uvaish manipulated the victim into eloping with him. Under his influence, she also took away gold and silver jewellery along with cash worth Rs 20,000 from her home. When her family began searching for her, they discovered that Uvaish had taken her. They also discovered that Uvaish was of criminal nature, who, along with accomplices, targeted Hindu girls by deceiving them into relationships. He was also linked to activities such as forced conversion and human trafficking. The victim's father also approached the accused's father, but he was subjected to death threats and verbal abuse. The father expressed fear for his daughter’s safety, stressing that her life was in danger after she left home with the accused. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered by the police, and a search was initiated to rescue the girl and nab the accused. According to the police, no evidence of religious conversion had emerged at the initial stage of investigation, though the investigation was ongoing.

Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the tracker under the primary category of: - Crimes against women in relationships and other sexual crimes. Within it, the sub-category selected is: - Man pretends to be Hindu, with the tertiary category being: - Name changed and Pattern of targeting Hindu women. When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. In some cases, the woman eventually accepts the man’s original religious identity and converts after the man’s identity is revealed. These cases could be argued as cases of religious brainwashing and a result of the pressure a woman feels after getting into a relationship with a man. The woman, it can be argued, also changed her religious identity because of the stigma she believes she might face if she chooses to walk out of a deceptive relationship. However, for the purpose of documenting hate crimes, the cases in this subcategory are limited to those where there is explicit violence aimed at religious conversion against the wishes of the victim (force-feeding beef, blackmailing with intimate videos, rape on refusal to convert, etc), or if the woman herself complains of the man’s religious deception. In such cases, it is established that the deception of the non-Hindu man had a specific aim of religious conversion or targeting of the victim due to her Hindu religious identity, therefore, making it a religiously motivated hate crime. The second primary category selected here is - Attack not resulting in death. Within it, the sub-category selected is - Attacked for opposing radicals or trying to save victim. In several cases, Hindus are attacked for opposing religiously motivated crimes being committed against a fellow Hindu or simply for voicing an opinion opposing radical elements, who either have in the past or continue to persecute Hindus. In such cases, the initial attack against the victim, against which the Hindu was trying to defend the victim, would also need to be classified as a religiously motivated hate crime. Since the initial crime itself was religiously motivated and the subsequent crime of attempting to save the victim or speaking against the radical elements ends up inviting a violent attack, it would also be classified as a religiously motivated hate crime under this category. This case has been added to the tracker because a Hindu woman was lured into a relationship by a Muslim man, who pretended to be Hindu. The perpetrator deliberately concealed his religious identity to initiate and sustain a relationship with a Hindu woman. This itself is a clear manifestation of bias and malicious intent towards the victim's religion. By concealing his true identity, he exploited her trust, targeting her under false pretences. This indicates a premeditated intent to manipulate her based on her religious background. In cases like these, the tactic of adopting a false Hindu identity to manipulate and "ensnare" a Hindu individual is not just an act of personal betrayal but can also be interpreted as an expression of disdain or disregard for Hinduism and its customs that reflects a deeper animosity towards Hindus and their beliefs. Furthermore, it was also revealed that the accused was linked to forced conversion and trafficking, which further proves the religious nature of the whole crime. The second criterion for this incident to fit in the 'Hate Crime' database is that the victim's father was subjected to death threats and verbal abuse when he confronted the accused's father. Such retaliatory violence reinforces the climate of fear and impunity around these acts and is part of a larger pattern of silencing or punishing those who oppose religiously motivated abuse, making this a religiously motivated hate crime. In supremacist interpretations of Islam, religious dominance is enforced not just through symbolism but also by controlling public spaces, suppressing non-Muslims, and punishing them for any perceived disrespect or even minor opposition. Thus, any act of resistance by Hindus, even when legitimate, is treated as provocation by the Muslim community, often resulting in violent retaliation against Hindus. Disclaimer: The Hinduphobia Tracker records incidents based on when the victim’s ordeal began. However, in this case, the report does not provide specific details regarding when the accused trapped the victim. Therefore, for documentation purposes, the date of the incident has been recorded as the date when she was lured away - August 22, 2025.
