Case Summary

In Alwar district, Rajasthan, four Muslim cow smugglers who were operating a cattle smuggling and cattle poaching network were arrested by the police. According to reports, on August 11 2025, a Hindu man named Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Khairthal, filed a complaint of theft of cattle. Police examined CCTV footage and, based on the investigation, four Muslim men were arrested — Asif alias Hangora, Irsad, Talim, and Sajid Khan. Police recovered two stolen cows and the pickup vehicle used in the offence from their possession. Further investigation revealed that the Muslim accused had been involved in cattle smuggling for a long period, with previous cases of cattle smuggling and cattle poaching registered against them. Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar commended the police teams involved in apprehending the accused and emphasised that strict action would be taken to eradicate illegal cattle smuggling in the district. As of the date of writing this report, the accused were produced before the court and remanded to police custody for interrogation to identify other accomplices and uncover the wider cattle smuggling network.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered and smuggled illegally by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter and smuggling are used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter or smuggling, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus as a motivating factor. However, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised under the Undecided database. If more details emerge which indicate religious animosity as a motivating factor, then it would be reclassified under the Hate Crime Database.
