Minor Hindu girl forcibly converted, made to eat beef and perform Nikah; raped and impregnated by Muslim man
Case Summary
In Banswara district of Rajasthan, a minor Hindu girl from the OBC community was lured into a relationship, raped, impregnated, and forcibly converted by a Muslim man named Arman and his mother. The victim was forced to eat beef and perform Nikah (Islamic marriage) conducted by a Maulana. According to reports, the victim got acquainted with the accused in 2022, when he trapped her in a relationship and sexually exploited her. During that time, the victim filed a complaint with the police, due to which the accused was arrested. While in jail, the accused’s mother persuaded the victim that Arman would marry her. When she refused, she was threatened into changing her statement, leading to the accused being released from jail. Subsequently, he drugged and raped her again, taking obscene pictures of her while she was unconscious. She became pregnant as a result of the sexual abuse, after which Arman began threatening to make the pictures public unless she agreed to perform Nikah with him. He was constantly pressuring the minor Hindu girl to perform Nikah with him. He told her that upon their Nikah, he would receive ₹15 lakh from his organisation, after which he would delete her pictures and allow her to leave. On 8 August 2025, Arman took her to his house, where he and his mother, Ayesha, forcibly converted her to Islam and stuffed beef into her mouth. They also brought a Maulana to perform the Nikah, but she managed to escape. As of the date of writing this report, the accused had been arrested by the police, and the investigation was ongoing. The victim was sent for a medical examination to confirm the stage of her pregnancy.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the tracker under the primary category of - Crimes against women in relationships and other sexual crimes. Within it, the sub-category selected is - Forced conversion before marriage, with the tertiary category being - Forced to eat beef and Forced to do Nikah. In such cases, a non-Hindu man is in a relationship with a Hindu woman when the pressure to convert her religion begins to manifest. In such cases, typically, two patterns emerge. First, when the relationship is consensual, and the religious identity of the perpetrator is known to the Hindu woman in the relationship, however, at some point during the relationship, the non-Hindu man starts to force the victim to convert her religion and give up her Hindu religious identity. The second is when the woman gets into a marriage with the man pretending to share her faith. Later, when the truth is revealed, the man starts pressuring the woman to convert her religion and give up her religious identity. In both the situations, the methods used to force the victim to convert her religion often revolve around force-feeding beef, forcing her to wear hijab, forcing her to read the Kalma or even pressurising the victim to do ‘Nikah’, which is marriage under Islamic law, with a prerequisite being conversion to Islam. Cases where a Hindu woman consensually converts to Islam in a relationship will be left out of the hate crime database, even though it could be argued in several cases that the conversion was a result of religious brainwashing. The second subcategory selected here is - Brainwashed and/or groomed, with the tertiary category being - Rape and sexual assault/harassment, Conversion of minor, and Victim says she was brainwashed/groomed. In our database, we have not added incidents where women have converted to another religion of their free will and no allegations of forced/involuntary conversion have been made. However, there are certain cases of conversion where the consent itself is a result of the brainwashing or grooming of a minor by the non-Hindu perpetrator trying to victimise a woman for her Hindu religious identity. The phenomenon of grooming points to non-Hindu perpetrators identifying their Hindu victims’ vulnerabilities and exploiting them over months and sometimes years, to extract the supposed ‘consent’ in order to convert their religion. In most cases of grooming, the victims are minors or the grooming started when the victim was a minor. In other cases of grooming, the non-Hindu perpetrator brainwashes and grooms a minor victim to extract their trust and then proceeds to rape them repeatedly with the intent of converting them to their faith. It is pertinent to understand here that when the victim is a minor, the ‘consent’ to convert or enter into a romantic relationship with an adult itself is redundant – addressed by POCSO. While every case of conversion of a minor and incidents of establishing a physical relationship with a minor by an adult is a crime, for the purpose of this database, a case would be considered a hate crime only if there is a distinct religious angle to the grooming. For example, in the UK, if a Hindu minor is targeted by Pakistani grooming gangs, it would be considered a hate crime because the victims are specifically targeted owing to their non-Muslim religious identity with the perpetrators being Muslim. In other cases, if a Hindu minor is brainwashed into entering a physical relationship with the non-Hindu adult perpetrator and the family alleges grooming/brainwashing of the minor to convert her religion, it would form a part of this database. If the victim is a Hindu adult, the case would form a part of this database only if the victim herself says that she was brainwashed/groomed to convert her religion. However, if the victim is deceased (murdered or otherwise), the case would form a part of this database if her family/friends provided testimony that the victim was brainwashed/groomed to convert her religion. Since these crimes have a distinct religious angle where the victim is being targeted owing to her Hindu religious identity, these cases are considered a hate crime. The third sub-category selected is - Assault or threat upon refusal to convert. When Hindu women are in a relationship with non-Hindu men, there are cases where the woman faces threats or assault after she refuses to convert and change her religious identity owing to pressure/force by the non-Hindu man. Such relationships may be consensual with the religious identity of the non-Hindu man known to the victim. Somewhere along the relationship, the non-Hindu man starts pressurizing the Hindu woman to convert to Islam and upon her refusal, assaults or threatens the victim. Such cases are driven by specific religious motivations and against the religious identity of the victim and are therefore qualified as hate crimes. Cases where the Hindu woman converts to Islam and does not file a complaint about the force or threat, are not considered a part of the hate tracker, even though, it may be argued that the woman was brainwashed or threatened to convert to Islam. The fourth sub-category selected here is - Blackmailed to convert. When Hindu women are in a relationship with non-Hindu men, there are cases where the woman is blackmailed to convert her religion, owing to her religious identity of being a Hindu. Such relationships may be consensual with the religious identity of the non-Hindu man known to the victim, however, there could be cases where the relationship is not consensual and the non-Hindu man starts blackmailing a Hindu woman to convert her religion. In these cases, it is often seen that the Hindu woman is blackmailed with intimate photos and/or videos, threats of harm to her or her family, threats of violence etc. Such cases are driven by specific religious motivations and against the religious identity of the victim and are therefore qualified as hate crimes. This case has been added to the tracker because a minor Hindu girl was lured, raped and forcibly converted by a Muslim man. The accused lured the minor girl into a relationship with the ultimate goal of religious conversion. He explicitly told her that he would receive ₹15 lakh from his organisation if she complied with his demand for Nikah, which indicates that he had no interest in a genuine relationship with the Hindu girl. Instead his only goal was religious conversion and sexual exploitation. In Islam, conversion of a non-Muslim partner is seen as a prerequisite for Nikah, and he forcibly converted her to Islam to fulfil this condition. This demonstrates a targeted strategy directed against an individual specifically because of animosity towards her religious identity. His actions demonstrate not only criminality but also deep-seated disrespect for the victims' faith and religious autonomy. Furthermore, the accused raped the minor girl and blackmailed her with obscene photographs to pressure her into Nikah. Here, rape, blackmail and threats were used as tools for religious conversion and Nikah. In such cases, sexual violence serves a dual purpose: physical subjugation and religious humiliation. The intention is to break the victim down emotionally, physically, and spiritually, so that she can be converted. This is not random violence; it is systematic, targeted, and rooted in religious animosity. Such actions stem from inherent hostility towards the victim's professed faith since Abrahamic faiths believe that any non-adherent to the faith is subject to being dehumanised till they convert. Therefore, religious conversions, even of minors, are often seen as a badge of honour, totally disregarding the methods used to achieve it. Since such predatory actions stem from doctrinal animosity towards the Hindu faith and its adherents, this case is being documented as a religiously motivated hate crime. One of the most severe aspects of the case was the forced consumption of beef—a direct assault on her religious beliefs. Here, this method was used not merely to shame or hurt the victim but to intentionally defile her religious beliefs so as to convert her. Forcing a Hindu to consume beef is not only a profound disrespect to their religious beliefs but also constitutes a religiously motivated hate crime. In Hinduism, cows are revered as sacred animals, symbolising life and sustenance, and the act of consuming beef is considered highly sacrilegious by many Hindus. Therefore, compelling a Hindu to eat beef goes beyond mere dietary imposition; it is an intentional violation of their religious principles and an assault on their cultural and spiritual identity. It qualifies as a deliberate act of defiling religious customs and constitutes a hate-driven attack on Hindu religious representation. In this case, the Hindu minor girl was deliberately targeted because of her Hindu identity. The accused and his mother used threats, coercion, and manipulation—such as blackmailing her with obscene photos and forcing her to perform Nikah and eat beef, both directly opposing her Hindu faith. This was not just a personal crime of abuse, but a calculated attempt to forcibly change her religious identity against her will. The blackmail and forced conversion were motivated by religious animus aimed at erasing her Hindu identity. Such targeting based on religion, combined with abuse and coercion, makes it a clear hate crime. It is further important to note here that the victim was a minor, which means the element of consent and genuine change of conscience was missing ab initio. Minors, due to their young age and lack of maturity, are particularly vulnerable to manipulation and coercion. They may not have the ability to fully understand the implications of converting to another religion, and the Muslim perpetrator purposely targeted and exploited this vulnerability of the victim. Since this case exemplifies the use of coercion and manipulation to achieve religious conversion, it is a blatant act of religious hate, which is why it has been documented here in the hate tracker. Such acts are not merely criminal in nature; they are ideologically charged, revealing religious prejudice and a calculated intent to alter the religious identity of a minor without her volition. The use of grooming, where trust is built only to exploit, is an insidious method that exploits the child’s naivety and dependence. Disclaimer: Media reports state that the victim’s ordeal began when she met the accused in 2022, though no exact date or month is provided. Thus, to document this case, we have used an indicative date—August 10, 2022—as a placeholder to represent the beginning of her suffering. While media coverage of the incident emerged on August 10, 2025, the Hinduphobia Tracker records the incident based on when the victim’s ordeal began, not when it was reported.
