In the Jahangirpur area of Delhi, a minor Hindu girl was lured and kidnapped by a Muslim man named Shoaib. According to the victim’s mother, the incident took place on July 10 when Saloni went to the washroom around 2 p.m. but did not return. Around the same time, Shoaib also disappeared from the area. When the family confronted the accused's family, they responded that the girl had gone with her own free will and even asserted that it was she asked the accused to take her along. The victim's mother reported that her daughter cannot go on her own, and it was the accused who would have threatened her and taken her away. The victim’s mother further stated that this was not the first such incident, as Shoaib had previously lured Saloni and taken her to his home, where she was later found. As of the date of writing this report, a complaint was filed by the victim’s family, though no concrete action was taken by the police, and the accused was still absconding.

In this case, a minor Hindu girl was lured away by a Muslim man. This incident raises serious concerns regarding possible religious profiling of the victim, especially given the documented pattern of Muslim men targeting Hindu girls, particularly minors, due to deep-seated animosity towards the Hindu community. It is worth noting that if the Muslim perpetrator had simply sought a relationship, a Muslim girl might have been more accessible to him than a Hindu girl. Furthermore, the fact that he had previously taken the same minor girl further indicates a pattern of deliberate targeting, which strengthens the suspicion of a religious motive. At the same time, it remains possible that this was a crime of opportunity rather than one driven by religious hostility, or that the accused was involved in a consensual relationship with the minor. However, it is also crucial to highlight that the Hindu victim in this instance was a minor. Therefore, any supposed “consent” given by her holds no legal standing under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
