Cows illegally smuggled in inhumane manner in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan
Case Summary
In the UIT police station area of Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, two cows were illegally smuggled in an inhumane manner. The police apprehended the accused and rescued the animals. According to media reports, the police arrested a man named Raja Babu, a resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar. He was transporting two cows in a closed-body tempo, with their mouths tied tightly with ropes. According to SHO Satyanarayan, he received information from an informer that cows were being moved in a tempo along an unpaved road by the railway line from Banwan village. The team, led by Head Constable Mukesh Kumar, set up a blockade near the Kaharani railway line. The vehicle was sighted at around 11 am, and the driver attempted to flee but was detained by the police. Inside the tempo, officers found one white native cow and one Dumri breed cow, both in poor condition, bearing rope marks on their mouths. The accused, Raja Babu, possessed no documentation for transporting the cows. During questioning, he admitted to the crime. The rescued cows were then transferred to the Mohanram Gaushala in Kali Kholi, Bhiwadi.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered and smuggled with the intent to insult the Hindu faith and the Hindu community. There have been several documented cases, even throughout history, where cow slaughter and smuggling are used as a method to denigrate the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate sacred Hindu temples. In all cases of cow slaughter or smuggling, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor. However, in the absence of any concrete indication of religious motivation, this case is currently being categorised under the Undecided database. If more details emerge which showcase religious animosity as a motivating factor, then it would be reclassified and added to the hate crime database.
