Cow slaughter by Muslims in Haryana; 210 kg of cow meat seized in police raid
Case Summary
A cow slaughter racket was exposed in Palla village of Haryana's Nuh district. It was operated by four Muslim men, namely Abid, Zabid, Mujahid, and Shoaib. According to reports, officials from the Gau Sanrakshan Cell, a unit of the Haryana police force which enforces laws related to cow protection, conducted a raid at a shuttered factory based on a tip-off. They apprehended three Muslim men: Abid, Zabid, and Mujahid. One more individual, Shoaib, escaped from the scene and remained absconding as of the last report. Police seized a total of 210 kilograms of beef. Of this, 70 kilograms were discovered inside a parked motorcycle, 50 kilograms were in the process of being loaded, and 90 kilograms of freshly cut meat were lying on the factory floor. In addition, the team recovered two axes, three knives, a wooden chopping block, and weighing scales. The investigation revealed that beef was being transported to nearby areas using motorcycles and cars. This incident followed a similar raid earlier in the same district, where 710 kilograms of beef had been recovered from an illicit processing unit.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The seizure of beef and arrest of Muslims in this case raises strong concerns about religious animosity towards Hindus as a potential motive behind the crime. In Hinduism, the cow is regarded as sacred and holds deep religious and cultural significance. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef), and desecrate Hindu temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is always a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor. However, in the absence of any concrete evidence that the crime was religiously motivated, this case is being categorised under the 'Undecided' database. If more details emerge that demonstrate religious animosity as a motivating factor behind the crime, then it will be added to the hate crime database.
