Minor Hindu girl student deceived by Muslim man disguised as Hindu, rescued after reporting to police
Case Summary
A Hindu student was lured into a relationship by a Muslim man who posed as a Hindu under a false identity. The minor girl, a NEET aspirant residing in Kota, Rajasthan, came into contact with the man via Instagram. Introducing himself as "Adi", the man, who belongs to Uttar Pradesh, gradually gained her trust. On the pretext of meeting her, he travelled to Kota and persuaded her to accompany him. While they were travelling together, he deliberately broke the SIM card in the girl’s phone, thereby cutting off her ability to contact anyone or be traced. However, as the journey progressed, the girl overheard him speaking to someone at his home in a language unfamiliar to her. This raised suspicion, as he had claimed to be Hindu, but his language resembled that of a Muslim. The girl, using her presence of mind, managed to take the man's phone and contacted her elder sister. Acting swiftly, her sister advised her to reach the nearest police station immediately. With the help of a local driver, the girl arrived at the station and reported the entire incident. During police interrogation, it was revealed that the man’s real name was Razak and he was 25 years old, not 18 as he had falsely claimed. He had concealed both his religious identity and age to manipulate the girl. Officers from the Bilal Kundi Police Station arrested Razak and brought him to Kota, where the Child Welfare Committee counselled the girl and reunited her with her family. Committee Chairman Rajendra Singh Rathore confirmed that further investigation is underway, and a larger conspiracy may be exposed in due course.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The primary category in this case is: Crimes against women in relationships and other sexual crimes. The secondary category under this is: Man pretends to be Hindu. The tertiary category under this is: Name changed. When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. In some cases, the woman eventually accepts the man’s original religious identity and converts after the man’s identity is revealed. These cases could be argued as cases of religious brainwashing and a result of the pressure a woman feels after getting into a relationship with a man. The woman, it can be argued, also changed her religious identity because of the stigma she believes she might face if she chooses to walk out of a deceptive relationship. However, for the purpose of documenting hate crimes, the cases in this subcategory are limited to those where there is explicit violence aimed at religious conversion against the wishes of the victim (force-feeding beef, blackmailing with intimate videos, rape on refusal to convert, etc), or if the woman herself complains of the man’s religious deception. In such cases, it is established that the deception of the non-Hindu man had a specific aim of religious conversion or targeting of the victim due to her Hindu religious identity, therefore, making it a religiously motivated hate crime. The case from Kota qualifies as a religiously motivated hate crime because it exhibits all the principal features of deception, coercion, and religious targeting as outlined under the relevant category. A Muslim man, Razak, deliberately concealed both his religious identity and real name to initiate a relationship with a minor Hindu girl preparing for NEET. By introducing himself as “Adi,” a name culturally and religiously associated with Hindus, he exploited her trust and faith-based assumptions to gain access to her personal life. This deception was not incidental but a strategic misrepresentation aimed at dismantling the girl’s ability to make informed choices regarding the religious basis of her relationship. Further, Razak’s calculated act of breaking the girl’s SIM card and attempting to take her away without a trace points to a level of control that extends beyond a private interpersonal betrayal into the realm of coercion and captivity. The moment the girl discovered linguistic cues indicating the man’s actual religious affiliation, she immediately reported the incident, demonstrating that his deception had not been accepted by her and that she felt violated on the grounds of religious fraud. This manipulation of religious identity to entrap someone emotionally and physically falls squarely within the documented pattern of religiously targeted aggression. The psychological harm, breach of trust, and religious dishonesty inflicted were not incidental.
