Cows and bulls illegally smuggled for slaughter by Muslim man and accomplice in Guna, Madhya Pradesh
Case Summary
In the Guna district of Madhya Pradesh, cows and bulls were being illegally smuggled for slaughter by a Muslim man and his accomplice. According to news reports, the two accused were identified as Farooq, a Muslim man, and his accomplice. They were arrested by the Dharnawada police while attempting to smuggle cows in an Amul milk truck. The police rescued eight cattle from the vehicle, which were being transported to Malegaon in Maharashtra for slaughter. Acting on a tip-off from an informer, the police intercepted the suspicious vehicle near the forest area of Duhavad village. When the vehicle was stopped, the two accused attempted to flee but were chased down and apprehended by the police. This action was taken as part of an ongoing campaign directed by Superintendent of Police Ankit Soni. The Dharnawada police team, led by Station In-charge SI Prabhat Katare, operated under the guidance of ASP Mansingh Thakur and the leadership of Raghogarh SDOP Deepa Dodve. Upon inspection, the police found that three bulls and five cows had been crammed into the vehicle in a cruel and inhumane manner. The rescued cattle were later sent to Shri Ram Gaushala in the village of Baneh for care and rehabilitation. The police seized the smuggling vehicle and registered a case against the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are illegally smuggled for the purpose of slaughtering by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter by non-Hindus, in this case, Muslims, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor. However, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as 'undecided'. If more details emerge that conclude that the act was motivated by religious animosity, then it would be added to the hate crime database. Disclaimer: Since both accused are from different religious backgrounds, we have selected the "Others" category for the perpetrator section. Disclaimer: It is important to clarify that the report does not specify the exact date when the accused were caught.
