Illegal beef processing unit found at national highway in Punjab; Halal and Wheel Cubes labelled several meat packages recovered

Case Summary
A beef processing unit was uncovered at a Vaishno Dhaba along the Jalandhar–Ludhiana National Highway in Punjab, near Phagwara. Hindu organisations present at the site stated that the facility, operating inside a palace-like structure adjacent to the dhaba, was being run by Rohingya Muslims. They stated that cows were being slaughtered and the meat was being packed for distribution. Police officials reached the location and detained approximately six individuals. The main operator of the unit reportedly fled before the authorities arrived. Upon inspection, several meat packets were recovered from the premises. These packages bore markings in Arabic and English, including the brand name 'First Choice', labelled as Halal and Wheel Cubes, each weighing 900 grams. Experts noted that such wheel cubes are typically produced using the meat of calves or young cows below six years of age. Cooked meat was also found on-site, leading to further allegations by Hindu groups that beef was being prepared and consumed on the premises. Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Tura confirmed that a probe was underway and that strict action would be taken. Notably, a similar incident had occurred a few years earlier in the Goraya area of Jalandhar, roughly 10 km away, which was also exposed by Hindu organisations.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor; however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as Undecided. If more details emerge, they will be added to the Hate Crime Database.
