Hindu woman murdered by her Muslim live-in partner over heated verbal altercation

Case Summary
In Hulimavu, Bengaluru, Karnataka, a 40-year-old Hindu woman named Asha was murdered by her 33-year-old Muslim live-in partner named Shamshuddin. Media reports suggest that the accused was a married man and had children of his own. The deceased victim, Asha, was a widow and also had her own children. She had been in a relationship with Shamsuddin for over a year and a half. They even presented themselves as husband and wife. Shamshuddin is a native of Assam and was residing in Bengaluru with Asha. Both were employed at the same housekeeping materials company, Urban Company, near Hulimavu. As per police sources, their relationship had turned bitter due to frequent verbal arguments between them. Asha was also struggling with alcohol addiction and was engaged in several late-night phone calls. On the day of the incident, Shamsuddin had returned home drunk. This led to a verbal altercation between Asha and Shamshuddin. This verbal argument quickly turned violent, and Shamshuddin strangled Asha to death. He then wrapped her body in a sack, placed it on a bike, and disposed of it in a garbage truck. This entire act was captured on the nearby CCTV cameras. The incident came to light on 29th June 2025, when Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) workers discovered a woman’s dead body in a sack while unloading garbage. Her hands were tied, and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination. The Bengaluru Police were informed regarding this, and they registered a case and launched an investigation into this matter. Based on the CCTV footage and other evidence, the police identified the accused, and Shamshuddin was subsequently arrested. Even the Bengaluru police confirmed that Shamshuddin had killed Asha over a heated verbal interaction.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case raises suspicions about whether the Hindu woman was murdered due to religious animosity by her Muslim boyfriend. There have been several instances where Hindu women have been lured into relationships by Muslim men, subsequently pressured to convert, sexually exploited, or, in extreme cases, killed. Such instances are a result of deep-seated religious hostility towards the victim’s faith. However, in this particular case, as there is no conclusive evidence indicating a religious motive in this crime, therefore, it has been placed in the ‘Undecided’ category in the database. If further information emerges suggesting religious animosity as a factor, then the case will be reclassified under the hate crime database.
