Tribal Hindu woman and her minor daughter abducted by Muslim man in Jharkhand

Case Summary
In Maganpur village of Ramgarh district, Jharkhand, a 20-year-old tribal Hindu woman named Sheela Devi, and her 18-month-old daughter were kidnapped by a Muslim man named Firoz Ansari At the time of the incident, Sheela Devi and her daughter were going to their maternal home when they were abducted on June 8, 2025. The victim’s husband, Deepak Munda, has submitted a written complaint to the Gola police station as well as to the Superintendent of Police, Ramgarh, on June 14. Despite this, no concrete action has been taken by the police. Furthermore, Deepak Munda has also received threats in connection with the case. This sparked outrage among the local Hindu organisation, and they also highlighted the growing pattern of targeted abduction of tribal women and girls by Muslim men in Jharkhand. They also demanded that strict action should be taken against perpetrators, and the Hindu woman and her child should be rescued as soon as possible. Furthermore, Chakravarti Diwakar, a member of the central core committee of Hindu Raksha Dal, also issued a press statement criticising the police administration for inaction. He said that the police were not showing any interest in recovering the woman due to pressure from someone.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, a tribal Hindu woman and her 18-month-old daughter were kidnapped by a Muslim man. The case potentially reflects religious profiling, as several past instances have demonstrated a recurring pattern where Muslim perpetrators have targeted Hindu women with coercion, deception, or force, often with the intention of conversion. Furthermore, Chakravarti Diwakar, a member of the Hindu Raksha Dal, also indicated the same pattern of targeted abductions. However, due to the lack of direct evidence at present confirming a religious motive in this specific instance, the case cannot currently be classified as a religiously motivated hate crime. It is also important to note that the victim's husband has also not issued any statement or indicated any religious motive behind the crime. For this reason, this case has been added to the 'Undecided' database. If further information emerges that hints towards a religious motivation behind this crime, then it would be reclassified and included under the Hate Crime database.
