Case Summary
In the forest near Itanga Bairam Nagar village, within the Khajuria police station area in the Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh, a sack containing the remains of dead cows and other bovine animals was discovered. This caused uproar in the locality. According to reports, some villagers noticed a sack on the banks of a drain near the village. Upon opening it, they found the remains of dead cows and other bovine animals inside. Subsequently, Hindu organisations were informed of the incident. Vishwa Hindu Parishad preachers Vijay Kohli, Ashok Kumar, Ram Diwakar, Sumit Arora, Pradeep Gangwar, Rambabu Maurya, and other activists arrived at the scene. They demanded that the police arrest those responsible. The police requested one day to investigate the matter. They assured the Hindu activists of an impartial investigation and promised to apprehend all those responsible.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered and smuggled illegally by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter and smuggling are used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter or smuggling, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor; however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as Undecided. If more details emerge, then it would be reclassified under the Hate Crime database.
