Holi celebrations targeted and denigrated by American nationalist influencer on social media
Case Summary
In the United States, an anti-Hindu social media post targeting Holi was made by an American nationalist influencer. The accused denigrated Holi celebrations organised at a preschool named Primrose School of Farragut. The accused is identified by an X handle named 'Info Battle Maiden'. The accused calls themselves an American nationalist. The accused posted a video of Holi on their X handle on 6 March 2026, where they denigrated Holi and the fact that the school organised it. In the post, which rapidly gained traction on the platform, the user criticised how Holi, described as ‘a Hindu pagan holiday’, turned into a full school event with children throwing colours and celebrating ‘foreign gods’. It went on to claim that the event represented ‘Hindutva replacement’ happening in American society. “Flood the schools and overwrite the culture. All part of the plan,” the post concluded. The post sparked a wave of reactions online. Some American users blamed American parents for allowing the celebration, while others used the opportunity to mock Hindu culture. “Parents are disgusting retards,” wrote one American user. “The death of white culture is thanks to white women being the most easily influenced group in the world,” added another. “At least they’re not throwing baby goats in the air as a sacrifice to their heathen demons…not yet anyway,” one American user trolled. However, many Indian Hindus and other users pushed back against the anti-Hindu remarks, clarifying that Holi is largely a cultural festival marking the arrival of spring. “If this is all it takes to replace your culture, your culture wasn’t worth a damn to begin with,” one Hindu user wrote. The video was originally shared on Instagram by Ananya Sinha Chowdhury, an Indian-origin Hindu woman residing in Tennessee, whose daughter, Renee, celebrated her first Holi in the preschool. “Holi celebration at Renee’s school,” she captioned the video, where multiple comments appreciated that the school observed the festival as an occasion of celebration and joy.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case is added to the tracker under the primary category- Hate Speech against Hindus. The subcategory selected is- Anti-Hindu slurs, mocking faith. Anti-Hindu slurs and the deliberate mocking of the Hindu faith owing to religious animosity involve the usage of derogatory terms, stereotypes, or offensive references to religious practices, symbols, or figures. One of the common anti-Hindu slurs used against Hindus is “cow-worshipper” and “cow piss drinker”. The intention of using this term is to demean and mock Hindus as a group and their religious beliefs since Hindus consider the cow holy. Additionally, some symbols and the slurs attached to them have a historical context that exacerbates the insult, hate, stereotyping, dehumanisation and oppression against Hindus. Cow worship has been used for centuries to denigrate Hindus, insult their faith and oppress Hindus specifically as a religious group. There has been overwhelming documentation about how cow slaughter has been used to persecute Hindus with cow meat being thrown in temples and places of worship. There has also been overwhelming documentation where cow meat (beef) has been force-fed to Hindus to either forcefully convert them to Islam or denigrate their faith. Apart from cow worship, the Swastika – which holds deep religious significance for the Hindus – has also been misinterpreted and distorted to use as a slur against Hindus. Similarly, the worship of the Shivling has been used by supremacist ideologies and religions to denigrate Hindus owing to religious animosity. Such slurs and denigration stem out of inherent animosity and hate towards Hindus and their faith, therefore, it is categorised as hate speech targeted at Hindus specifically owing to their religious identity. This case exemplifies religiously motivated hate speech, as the perpetrator denigrated Holi celebrations at an American preschool out of profound animosity towards Hinduism and the Hindu community. The perpetrator explicitly condemned the event by insisting it occurred in an American school, where a 'pagan Hindu holiday' had become a full school activity. The term 'pagan' serves as a derogatory slur commonly deployed by Christian groups to vilify non-Christian faiths, particularly polytheistic traditions like Hinduism, branding them as evil and inferior to Christianity. By labelling Holi a 'pagan festival' unfit for an American school, the perpetrator implied that Hindu festivals have no place there, effectively seeking to marginalise Hindus and exclude their cultural practices. Such targeted denigration of a sacred Hindu festival reveals deep-seated religious prejudice. Holi holds immense significance as a vibrant festival celebrating the triumph of good over evil, the arrival of spring, and the spirit of forgiveness and renewal through the playful throwing of colours. Remarks that mock and belittle Holi constitute a direct assault on the Hindu faith itself, rendering this a textbook case of religiously motivated hate speech. The perpetrator further escalated the hatred by denigrating Hindu deities as 'foreign gods', implying that Hinduism and its gods belong nowhere in America. This rhetoric underscores a deliberate intolerance, positioning Hindu worship as an alien intrusion to be eradicated from public spaces. Such expressions of religious bigotry expose the perpetrator's visceral animosity towards the Hindu community and their faith, solidifying this as a clear instance of religiously motivated hate speech. The post also vilified the Hindu community by framing the Holi celebration as 'Hindutva replacement' infiltrating American society, with the chilling conclusion: 'Flood the schools and overwrite the culture. All part of the plan.' Anti-Hindu forces frequently misuse 'Hindutva' to demonise Hindus as extremists, distorting its true essence as a socio-political and civilisational movement for the self-preservation of the Hindu community against threats from Christian missionaries, Muslim extremists, and anti-Hindu leftist academia. Far from being a destructive ideology, Hindutva defends Hindu identity and continuity. By portraying it as a conspiratorial takeover threatening America, the perpetrator stigmatised Hindus as dangerous invaders, stoking fear and portraying them as existential enemies. This calculated effort to marginalise and dehumanise the Hindu community based on their religious identity marks it unequivocally as religiously motivated hate speech. In this case, even though the perpetrator's religious identity remains unknown, the incident meets all criteria for a hate crime. It has therefore been added to the hate crime database of the Hinduphobia Tracker.
