Minor Hindu girl abducted, raped and forced to convert to Islam for nikah by Muslim men

Case Summary
In the Chinhat area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a 17-year-old Hindu girl was lured and abducted by two Muslim men named Asif and Shamshad Alam. The victim's family stated that the accused raped her and was intending to convert her to Islam for nikah (Islamic marriage). The incident occurred on 18 January 2026, when the minor Hindu girl, a Class 10 student, left her home for school in the morning, after which she did not return and went missing. The victim's family identified two Muslim men, Asif, also known as Naimullah, a former neighbour originally from Champaran district in Bihar, and his associate Shamshad Alam, as the individuals responsible for taking her away. They also stated that the accused raped her and intended to convert her to Islam for nikah. It was revealed that Asif worked at a nursing home in Lucknow and had maintained persistent contact with the victim, frequently visiting the neighbourhood under the pretext of dropping off a co-worker. In the days prior to her abduction, the victim went to the Sangbazar area, where Asif gave her money and chocolates. The accused also subjected her to harassment and intimidation through Instagram before eventually abducting her. The victim's family also revealed that threatening messages were sent to them using the victim’s social media account, in an effort to exert pressure on them and intimidate them. Subsequently, an FIR was registered by the police against both the accused, Asif and Shamshad Alam, under sections of abduction, sexual exploitation, forced religious conversion, and marriage. Police formed multiple teams, initiated raids in Lucknow and Bihar, and examined mobile phone locations, CCTV footage, and other technical evidence to rescue the minor and apprehend Asif and Shamshad. As of the date of writing this report, the investigation was ongoing.

The target was not the victim as an individual, but her Hindu identity, as the victim's family stated that the accused was intending to convert her. Thirdly, the victim's family revealed that the accused raped her and intended to convert her to Islam for nikah. In Islam, marriage to a non-Muslim partner is prohibited, which is why she was being converted to Islam. This shows that the Muslim perpetrator specifically targeted the minor Hindu victim in order to convert her to Islam. Compelling a minor Hindu girl to discard her religious faith and embrace another was a direct attack on her religious identity and dignity. This was not random violence; it was systematic, targeted, and rooted in religious animosity. Fifth, the accused also sent threatening messages to the victim's family, in an effort to intimidate them. This conduct demonstrated continued coercion and an attempt to silence, terrorise, and psychologically pressure the family into submission. The use of threats after the abduction showed that the accused's intent was malicious from the outset. He never had any genuine interest or intention of a relationship with the Hindu girl; his only goal was sexual exploitation and religious conversion. The intimidation of the family reinforced the predatory and coercive nature of the crime and underscored that the acts were carried out with calculated hostility rather than spontaneity. Such actions stem from inherent hostility towards the victim's professed faith since Abrahamic faiths believe that any non-adherent to the faith is subject to being dehumanised till they convert. Therefore, religious conversions, even of minors, are often seen as a badge of honour, totally disregarding the methods used to achieve it. Since such predatory actions stem from doctrinal animosity towards the Hindu faith and its adherents, this case is being documented as a religiously motivated hate crime.
