Case Summary

A 58-year-old Hindu man, Bhausaheb Pawar, faced a fatal assault and was killed by a 30-year-old Muslim man, Hussain Sheikh Ayub Sheikh, near a hotel close to Ajintha Chowfuli in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. According to reports, the deceased victim, Pawar, had worked at a hotel near K. U. Kolhe School for seven years. On 13 January 2026, he was found unconscious near a hotel. Following this, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) police took him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The case was initially recorded as a sudden death. However, injuries were visible around his neck, which indicated strangulation. Pawar’s identity was confirmed by one of his school friends. CCTV footage showed the accused, Hussain Sheikh, strangling Pawar and jumping on his body. Following this, police arrested Hussain Sheikh from Transport Nagar. Subsequently, a murder case was registered against Hussain under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023. Reports also revealed that the victim, Pawar, was brutally assaulted with sticks and then strangulated to death by Hussain over a petty dispute. Police Inspector Rahul Gaikwad instructed Sub-Inspector Sharad Bagal, Poheko Akram Sheikh, Muralidhar Dhangar, Kishor Patil, and Rahul Koli to conduct the investigation. Sub-Inspector Ganesh Wagh carried out further investigative procedures.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

In this case, the immediate cause of the crime was not explicitly stated. However, the extreme violence inflicted on the Hindu man, resulting in his death, raises the possibility of premeditation and deeper religious motives. The disproportionate brutality suggests the Muslim perpetrator may have harboured deep-seated animosity towards the victim, potentially driven by religious bias or hatred. Such severe violence often reflects underlying communal tensions and targeted intent. A well-documented pattern exists where hostility towards the Hindu community has fuelled similar violent incidents and murders of Hindus at the hands of Muslims. These acts rarely represent isolated violence; they typically stem from entrenched religious intolerance, fitting into a broader framework of anti-Hindu aggression. However, in this case, as there are currently no explicit indicators of religious motivation (no communal slurs, direct religious animosity, nor has the victim's family suggested such a motive), the case is added to the tracker's 'Undecided' database. Should further evidence confirm a religiously motivated murder, it will be reclassified and added to the hate crime database of the tracker.
